"Mehala is a beautiful jungle located on a massive island known as Gor'Thuna. According to my mother, the island was named in honor of the Lion and the Feathered Serpent—the King of Nature and the Queen of the Skies. Since time immemorial, they defended this land from evil until they eventually fell into an eternal slumber.

​This island is filled with breathtaking flora and fauna found nowhere else on Earth. However, it has its dangers: quicksand, plants capable of devouring animals and humans alike, strange stones that come to life in abandoned temples, and predators always on the hunt. Despite all this, I see Mehala as my home—my only home.

​O-Oh! I-I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Rosaria Asensi Da Luca, but my mother calls me Rosa. You can call me that too, if you’d like. It’s the only thing I can remember, aside from strange lights and screaming... I'm sorry, continuing on... my mother’s name is Suriya. She used to be the Taroona. What does that mean? In the language of this land, it means 'Guardian.' Chosen by Gor and Thuna, the Taroona is responsible for keeping the peace and defending the animals and native villages of this Great Island.

​Suriya is my mother and protector. She taught me everything I need to survive. She told me that she found me unconscious and wounded next to what she calls a "Iron Monster" consumed by flames. She took me to her treehouse and healed my wounds with a medicine she invented. When I woke up, I was terrified. She asked me why I was alone—if I had been the prey of that iron monster that the 'hunters from distant lands' use to move quickly. I couldn't remember. All I had were those memories of lights and then darkness. I cried because I didn't know where I came from or if I had a family. Suriya hugged me and promised I wasn't alone.

​Years passed, and though we explored the jungle to spark my memory, nothing came back. Suriya became my true mother, and I became her daughter. At first, I apologized for calling her 'Mom,' but she just laughed and said she loved it. I finally had a family. She trained me to climb, hunt, and use vines to travel through the canopy.

​One day...I remember felling ill...my mother and I that Day we were looking for flowers, she wanted to teach me how to craft flowercrowns so she took me to a part of the jungle that had a beautiful garden..she grab some flowers and told me to grab any flower i wanted and so i did...and as i did grab the flowers i thought they were pretty i stopped to look at one that was so beautiful, beautiful petals and colors perfect for the flower crown i wanted to make for my mama so...i decided to carefully grab it but...i didn't expect the flower to drop a toxic gas onto me...i started feeling weak but...i screamed for my mother who worried came to my rescue and took me back to the treehouse, she prepared some medicine while i was laying in my fur bed but..no effect...she tried with any medicine she knew while the days passed and i kept getting worse, my mother then decided to take me to the Temple of Gorr, a sacred place known only to the Taroona,when we arrived i kept coughing i was so weak.

I could still look, i saw this old abandoned temple, there were vines and nature had already reclaimed..inside there were many animals who when they saw us they run to hide in the holes the wall had, i looked at them..some of them have their babies with them while looking at us...and then in the front...i saw it... a statue of the king of Nature...Gor the Lion....before blacking out i hear my mother pleading and kneeling to Gor to help her..to heal me...Suddenly, the statue glowed white, a roar echoed through the halls, and a white aura cured my illness. But I felt different. When I looked at my mother, I saw strange 'X' marks all over her body. Eventually, I realized these were pressure points—weaknesses. I also discovered I could understand animals, from chimps to birds, though for some reason, I cannot understand insects or reptiles.

​My mother believed this was Gorr’s blessing and that he had plans for me. She trained me as the next Taroona, and at nineteen, I officially took her place. During my journey, I made many friends, like Pip, a ferret I've had since I was a child, and Kizo, a white baby bat I rescued from a carnivorous plant.

​There was also Ekko, an adult leopard who was like my second teacher. He taught me how to hunt. When he passed away from old age, it was my first real heartbreak. His final wish was for me to wear his pelt and become the greatest Taroona the island has ever seen. Now, I wear his pelt as a top and bottom...

​And lastly, is Piri... a Lumajara butterfly, unique to this area of the massive island. According to the stories, every Taroona has their own Lumajara butterfly that rests in their hair from the very first day of their training to become a Taroona, and it will remain there until the Taroona's final days

I am still the Taroona today. I have mastered the ability to see the 'X' marks, a power I call Gorraku—the Eyes of Gorr.

When I use them, my eyes turn yellow, and I gain the physical abilities of a feline. It’s pretty cool, right? This is my life, and I wouldn't change it for anything. I love my home, and I will defend it against any threat"
