The Nude-Form welcomes you to another edition of our long-running interview series where today we're chatting with grodpro . As a reminder, our aim for this series is to provide insight how other people approach things but also allowing us to get to know our fellow group members. Below is the interview.

:iconnude-form: Question 1: Let's start by telling us something about yourself?

:icongrodpro: answer: I’ve made a career out of photography. Starting with studying and specializing in commercial photography, and achieving a B.S. degree. Been playing the guitar since I was 16, and I love to cook. I have a daughter and raised a step son, both grown up to be fine young people. I am single now and that’s just the way I like it. It helps in my work with no distractions.

Q2. As a guitar player, are there any songs which stop you in your tracks everytime you hear it?

“Friends” Marl Almond, and “I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You” Colin Hay

Q3. As a cook, what sort of foods do you enjoy making? What about those you enjoying eating?

Rice and beans, with pan fried chicken and steamed Brussel Sprouts. I enjoy eating Sushi

Q4: What attracted you to the photographic medium?

What attracted me to the photographic medium was the idea of capturing moments in time. To better understand the human condition, I chose photography.

Q5: What do you like to do during your free time?

What I like to do in my spare time is being with friends and family, enjoying good wine, movies, social media, and occasionally playing with my 6 & 12 string guitars.

Q6: Do you partake in any other creative endeavors? If so, what kind?

No, not really.

Q7: Work long enough in this business, you're bound to experience some comedic episodes even if its only funny in hindsight. Would you be willing to share one of yours?

I’ll never forget when a couple of art directors were arranging a seafood display on frosted plexiglass that had a 3000ws head under it. The modeling light was off so it wouldn’t heat up the food. While I was on another set I trigged my lights which accidentally tripped the slave on the food set and blinded those guys lol

Q8: For the sake of this question, we'll take for granted that "respecting the model as a human being" is the unspoken first piece of advice. What other advice would you give another photographer, perhaps working w/ their first nude model?

Working with a nude model for the first time can be tenuous. A photographer’s handling of this situation can make or break a shoot. Give as much information of what you seek about your vision, must be conveyed to the model. In other words no surprises.

Q9: What do are your strengths?

Experience, truthful dialog, and timely delivery

Q10: We each have a defining moment in our life, sometimes we have more than one. It changes us from who we were to who we became afterwards. Please tell us one of yours & how it changed you.

I had an epiphany of who I am as a craftsmen today. In the instant I realized I was to become a photographer changed me forever.

Q11: If given a choice between listening to Beatles music OR Elvis, which would you choose?

The Beatles

Q12: Any nuggets of wisdom you'd like to share w/ models working w/ you?

I’m constantly coaching models in every aspect of their role. Since I mainly work with new (green) models, I coach on posing, facial expressions, and most importantly hand placement. Practice is key.

Q13: Pretend personnel & budget were not an issue. Describe us your dream shoot or concept?

To do an ad campaign throughout Europe

Q14. Any particular (dream) ad campaign you have in mind (for shooting one in Europe)? Or are you just speaking about the opportunity in general?

No particular campaign in mind just the opportunity to shoot in the streets of Paris, the fields of Italy.

Q15: What are the most common set of difficulties you've experienced as a photographer?

Taking the time to get the shot right, and be happy with the out come. Sometime the most simple of lighting situations can be the most challenging.

Q16: What is the proudest moment you've experienced as a photographer?

In regard to my commercial career, biding against the best in my city with the largest budget, and winning the bids.

Q17. What's your proudest moment in your artistic career?

my proudest moments are receiving Daily Deviations here on :dA:

Q18: Tell us the story behind your user name?

My user name, the “G” stands for my first name, the “Rod” stands for my last name, “pro” stands for professional.

Q19: Aside from a person's look meeting a particular project, what else goes into your decision making process whether to work w/ a particular model or not?

The look is basically it for me. I’m a cherry picker, so if someone looks like I can do good with them, that’s all it takes

Q20: If you were omnipotent, what you would change about either photography, modeling, or the industry itself?

I would change the way those in the industry who discriminate a photographer’s age. Talent not age would be the key factor.

Q21: Who are some visual artists you admire, whether they be here on :devart: or elsewhere? The answer need not be limited to the photographic medium either.

I admire so many photographers. Just take a look at my favorites folder here on :devart: .

Q22: Favorite cartoon character?

Bugs Bunny

Q23: Favorite movie?

Meet Joe Black

Q24: What's your favorite book & tell us about it?

Journey to the East by Hermann Hesse

Q25: Anything else that you'd like to add or ask us here at the Nude-Form group?

I really enjoy the collection of work in this group. I belong to quite a few, each has it’s merits.

Q26. For those who wish to know, what other social media platforms are you on?

I’m on FaceBook, Model Mayhem, and in particular Instagram of which I hope people would visit my page and follow me there…

So that about concludes today's interview. We appreciate you taking the time & allowing us to pick your brain.

Readers, we'd love to hear what you think by posting in the comments section below. Same goes if there are any other questions I might have neglected to ask that should be considered for the future.

In the meantime, we encourage everyone to check out our past interview sessions with our fellow :dA: artists by folowing the links below.

Have a great day everyone.

Weird. According to our records, the only two outstanding pieces submitted were earlier today.

In the future, we'd appreciate if members messaged us privately if they have any questions. Thanks.
