Description

Metridiochoerus jacksoni is an extinct warthog that lived during the Early Pleistocene of Ethiopia and Kenya. It was about the same size (1.5 meter long) as its modern relative but had a more impressive pair of tusks. The other well known species is the larger M. andrewsi from the Upper Pliocene.

I wonder why this one died out. Other than the tusks, there's not much else different from the contemporary type. Maybe the tusks ended up being more detrimental than beneficial?
