Coelurus fragilis, a small hunter (2.5 meter long) from the Late Jurassic of North America constitutes some kind of an enigma among the coelurosaurs, his fragmental remains displaying a mixture of primitive and advanced characters. Its neck structure is closer to the compsognathids but its hands are like those of the maniraptorans. Recently, it was suggested to be closely related to the Tyrannosauroids.
