Midnight Fridge Raid

Thanksgiving is this week, I've never been able to successfully draw a Thanksgiving pinup girl. There's just nothing about it that lends itself to this type of thing. But Thanksgiving DOES mean a fridge full of leftovers. . . none of which are in this refrigerator because I didn't have that in mind when I made this, it only came to me when I was almost done. Besides, it would've just looked like a bunch of tupperware stacked up, not that interesting. 

But you weren't looking at the contents of the refrigerator anyway. Which is disappointing because that's CLEARLY supposed to be the focal point of this drawing, why, it's where all the light is. What ELSE would you be meant to look at?

The idea for this one is pretty simple, right. Late at night, she's wearing only a silk pajama top, which would normally provide a bit better coverage, but she's bending down to reach the lowest shelf, her shirt rides up in the back, and we get an eyeful. 

I wasn't sure how that was gonna look at first. I almost didn't have her just the top, but then redid the contours a little better and stopped for the night. When I woke up this morning and viewed it through a freshly rested set of eyes, I liked what I saw lots better. 

Where I really had lots of fun here was in the lighting. I shaded everything more or less how I always would, figuring that would all come from whatever ambient moonlight or street light shining through, and used a few layer of dark colored overlays to give me the darkness, and erase where I wanted light to be, giving me this backlit effect. 

So, for the THIRD TIME this month I'm saying "One more before I get to work on Christmas stuff" (There might be a fourth time I say it). I'm okay with that, I've gotten so many drawings up this year and I'm quite happy about that. Way more than in previous years.
