Description

The United Federation of East African Nations, Federation of East Africa, or simply the Federation is a international federation that was originally formed between the states of Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Djibouti. It is a pro-capitalist, democratic, and constitutional federal super-state that is also a strong military power within Africa. The Federation an its government is often said to stress, at least nominally, the values of universal liberty, equality, justice, peace, and cooperation. One of the only pure democracies within Africa, the Federation is not without its problems.

The History of the Federation dates back to 1980s Ethiopia. Having been one of the only African nations to escape colonization, the Empire of Ethiopia fell in 1974 and a Communist government, supported by the Soviet Union and other Communist countries of the time emerged. However, from 1974 onwards until the mid-1980s, the Communist government was wrecked with famines, war, and political instability. When the Soviet Union pulled its economic backing falling the glasnost and perestroika policies, the end of communism was all but assured. In 1990, a successful coup against the Communist by a united front of Ethiopians, Eritreans, and other ethnicities ended communist rule. Following the fall of communism, pro-democratic forces took control of Ethiopia, leading to the successful and peaceful independence of the state of Eritrea by 1991. In 1993, the new governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea, along with the government of Djibouti announced the foundation of the Federation. Reforms and investments during the rest of the 1990s turned the fledgingly superstate into a regional powerhouse by 2000 and successful political and military intervention has allowed the Federation to receive multiple requests for membership. Today, the number of member-nations stands at ten.

So this is the flag of a fictitious superstate I call the Federation of African Nations. Originally, I had used an eagle for the center design and only had two stars. However, as flags are symbols and these symbols often speak volumes about the organizations and places they represent, I decided to redesign the flag and given a more African feel. This is going to be the beginning of a series of flags for the Federation, as I have a flag for each member-state as well. I will be adding them all soon enough.

To be honest, I hadn't thought much about the actual history of how the Federation formed but I think what I wrote was decent enough. I may come to change it a bit but for now it will do. Everything is original to me and I hope everyone enjoys :)
