Atheist and Spiritual stamp by nothinplz Atheist and Spiritual stamp by nothinplz
Here I am back to making stamps. Geez it's been a while hasn't it?

This time I discuss a topic that's been on my mind for a while. Spirituality. Many people seem to think spirituality is only for the religious, but it's quite the polar opposite. I consider myself an agnostic atheist, meaning I don't believe in Gods or anything religious and that I feel they can't be proven or disproven. However, that doesn't mean agnoticism and atheism are incompatible with spirituality. In fact, they go well together just as perfectly as religion does, probably even more so. Same can be said for science. I myself am intrigued with the concept of spirituality as it showcases that every creature is connected with one and other through Nature, Earth and the Universe (yes, animals can be spiritual). Although I can't speak for everyone, I believe anyone can be spiritual, no matter what your personal beliefs are. It can definitely bring a positive outlook.

I'm between being an agnostic atheist or a christian (not catholic), because I certainly believe in spirituality, but I feel like an hypocrite denying the existence of a supernatural being.

How can they get well together? I'm curious, and I really want to use this stamp ;w;

Trust me, you don't need to believe in a supernatural being to be spiritual. Because when you look at it from a scientific standpoint, they argue that when we die, our bodies decompose back to Nature and the atoms that make our consciousness return to the galaxy. That in itself is the science kind of way to explain spirituality. Of course, others will have a different perspective but that's what makes spirituality in itself fascinating and whether you believe in a deity or not is irrelevant.

Oh, I get it then ;w;

But... what about believing in ghosts or spirits? Or other kind of 'mythological' creatures to some extent?

Well, if you mean paranormal activity, that's not exactly the same as spirituality. Spirituality is more to do with the conscious mind and inner spirit. Ghosts, as portrayed in the media, are basicly flying souls that haunt some place on the planet where the person was deceased which I personally don't believe in since they haven't been proven. Same can be said for mythological creatures.

Yes, I do know it is not the same.

With spirits I meant those you mentioned, and also the own soul being reborn in other human, to keep living, in a second life.

My question: is it hypocritical to believe in such things and not in another supernatural being, -such as God, for example?

I do think it is, therefore I don't know what to call myself. Christian or agnostic atheist?

Ah, I see.

I don't think it is. The example you mentioned was reincarnation which is mostly a Buddhist belief and Buddhism doesn't have a personal God to worship.

Plus, agnostic atheism just means not believing in a God and not knowing if it can be proved or disproved (hence the agnostic part). I know some agnostics and atheists who believe in reincarnation or a possible afterlife.

So yes, it is entirely possible to believe in it without a supernatural being involved. :)

:dummy: I'm happy then!

I'm not entirely sure about the existence of God, and I don't feel like it can be proved, or disproved.

I may be an agnostic atheist after all, haha. (yet with some beliefs in minor supernatural beings... oh help me)

Yes. :)

To be honest, even though I identify with the Jewish religion, I also consider myself atheist. Wicca also kind of intrigues me.

I'm only agnostic and atheist as I mentioned, though I've no trouble with religion in general, just the extremists who have caused hatred between each other. But spirituality is simply powerful. :heart:
