Avenging Fallen Brothers: Prologue
            “I do not want to be a Lady, I want to fight!” I pouted, crossing my arms over my chest. The fabric of the unnecessarily lacy dress scratched at my skin but I was too irritated to care.
            “Is that so? Don’t let mother hear you say that.” Rosalind smiled, looking down at me with wisdom only a girl of thirteen could possess. “Personally, I would prefer to be a princess rather than a knight.”
            I peered over my shoulder at the party we’d gone out onto the balcony to escape. Hazily, through scarlet and cobalt stained glass, I saw Mother, with her ethereal face and elegant dress, chatting with some men whose names I didn’t know. Mother, Lady Catlin Clarke of Lambridge Hold was a wo

Pray For Paris
As children we understood the world.
Everything was simple.
The sky was blue and grass was green,
Two plus two equaled four.
People were good or people were bad.
When questions got too hard we heard,
"You'll understand when you are older."
I am older now and understand less than I ever did.
Why do good men die and bad men go free?
What makes a man good?
What makes him an atrocity?
When did bravery become a competition?
When did we decide that when you show sympathy to a disaster you are cruel?
Because you did not mention another?
When did death and murder and cruelty become our normalcy?
Why does a child know the word "terrorist"?
I do not understand the world.
The sky is dark and the grass runs red
Two plus two now equals war.
We kill and maim and bomb each other for what?
Books of words from so long ago and mindless hatred.
Is this the world I was born into?
Did five-year-old me think this is the life we would live?
Scared of bombs and the news, of faceles

The Metal Room

         You never forget the scent of human flesh burning. You especially don’t forget when it’s your mother’s body sweltering. I could live for centuries and still never erase it from my memory. It’s all I smell when I breathe, all I see when I shut my eyes is her long crimson hair blending with the colors of the flames, all I hear is the crackling of her skin as it turned to embers, all I taste is the salt of the tears I wouldn’t let myself shed. You never forget the scent of human flesh burning. It scorches you as much as the person burning.
         We were well off, had money saved. In the beginning we were at least. So we got to burn her separately, at our own little ceremony. I won’t call it a funeral, no one cried and no one mourned. At least, not outside of locked doors or into pillows during the night. I won’t call it a funeral, because what we burne

Suicide Trend
I keep nooses in the closet
and pills in the drawers.
Guns under tables
and poison in the floors.
I'm not looking to die,
But I'm ready,
If I decide to try.
Nothing's too bad,
But nothing's too great.
I just don't want to have thought
And be too late.
See I don't want to die
By a bus or a car or a disease.
I want to go by my own hands
And die with ease.
So I'm not sad
Or insane.
I just want to go practically
And leave no one to blame.
Don't you agree
My way is the best?
I never wanted to be normal
And die like the rest.
It's easy and simple
To be prepared.
Everyone could do it
If they dared.
Give it a go
Try it my friend.
Be a part
Of the suicide trend.

In the Form of a Child.
          “I probably won’t miss you.” My mother said, her eyes colder than I’d ever seen them. She no longer tried to feign love for me. Though I am curious if she said those words for me or to herself.

           “I’m only interested in the end of the world.” I replied, unfazed by the loss of maternal warmth.

          I looked up at my mother; she was taller than me, significantly so. I came to maybe her elbow, perhaps a little higher. This made sense, my being a child after all. At least, this body was that of a child.

           “You may take her now.” Mother whispered to whomever it was holding the chains that bound my wrists behind my back. What a fun journey this has been, I chuckled

I Just Call Myself Robert.
    I’ve been called so many things. Boogeyman, monster, creature, demon, even the devil. These aren’t wrong, per say, but they aren’t right either. I am very much human.

    Psychopath, mentally ill, crazy, disturbed. These names are more accurate but they’re so relative. One man’s disturbed is another’s genius.

    Personally, I just call myself Robert. Sounds like someone that you could live across the street from. Maybe even share a beer with on the front porch.

    I like my name; it’s a nice enough thing to be called, Robert. My mother gave it to me when I was born, just like any other child. I was an attractive child, I didn’t cry too much and I wasn’t a handful, a

I am me;
Plain, simple, to the point;
Oh?
That’s not enough for you?
All right then;
I am Samantha;
Everyone just calls me Sam;
I am a student;
Cramming her head full of knowledge she’ll never use;
I am a writer;
Hoping to one day make something worthwhile;
I am an artist;
Sketching doodles on her notes in class;
I am a daughter;
Forgetting to clean her room;
I am a sister;
Telling you to get out of my room;
I am a friend;
Sitting up till 3 a.m. texting people I see every day;
I am a girl;
Painting her nails black and playing with pocketknives;
What can I say?
I am me.
