Tokotas HP Journal Generator

Fri May 25, 2018, 1:36 PM

Hi guys! So long story short, I got sick of tracking HP the traditional way - in a journal. The alternative was setting up a google sheet instead, but as an HP counter, I know what a pain link-only journals could be for the HP counters.

Whats a lazy Paws to do? Why, get her sister Kaykao to code something to make her life easier. DUH!

I'm releasing the generator to the public, so if you guys wanna make your HP life a bit easier, and still have beautiful dA journals that the HP counters will love you for, you can :3

Oh, and dA will never be able to eat your thumbs again. La la la la

Disclaimer!

This is NOT an official tokotas group feature. This is something I'm personally providing to the community with permission from my lovely code slave Kaykao.  We can't guarantee that it will work perfectly for you. There may be bugs - you can report them in the comments or on the generator site.

That being said, I personally use this thing for all my HP journals. If it breaks, so will I. So I'll be pretty vehement about keeping it up and running xD

So what the heck does this thing do?

The concept is simple...

  1. You track all your HP in a single spreadsheet, for all your tokotas.
  2. The HP Journal Generator will look at your spreadsheet, allow you to select a tokota from a list, and will generate the HTML for a HP Journal.
  3. Did I mention the generator does all the sections and all the math for you?
  4. You then paste the HTML into a dA journal and practice your best EVIL LAUGH because it was so easy and you never even had to do any math.
  5. The HP counters will hug you because everything will be subtotaled correctly and there will be pretty thumbs we can quickly glance at. Thank you Heart bum
  6. If dA eats your thumbs? Punch dA in the face with a fresh paste of the journal HTML. You can't lose anything unless the original deviations get deleted.

Here is an example of a journal I generated for one of my tokotas using this generator:

Banzai's HP
Grand Total = 626 HP
Submissive to Average (Total = 82 HP)
*Rites - Arms of Akna | Total = 44 HP

Total = 10 HP

Excellent AoAs
Total = 7 HP

3(fb colored shaded) +2(bg) +2(rite)
Total = 9 HP

7(1500 WC) +2(rite)
Total = 18 HP

10(2026 WC) +2(RoF) +4(non-com) +2(handler)
Exploring | Total = 38 HP

Total = 7 HP

3(fb colored shaded) +2(bg) +2(explore)
Total = 7 HP

3(fb colored shaded) +2(bg) +2(explore)
Total = 7 HP

3(fb colored shaded) +2(bg) +2(explore)
Total = 10 HP

6(1302 WC) +2(explore) +2(Scuttle and Fufluns are alpha)
Total = 7 HP

3(fb colored shaded) + 2(complex bg) + 2(exploration)
Average to Dominan

HOW DO I DO THIS!?

Getting the Sheet Set Up

Before getting started, you'll need to create your master HP sheet. There is a template you can make a copy of HERE.

Filling Out The Sheet

  1. In the Thumb Code column, fill out the thumb code for the deviation you wish to include.
  2. The the Breakdown column, fill out the full HP breakdown for the piece.
  3. Enter the Total HP for the piece
  4. The Sub-Category column is optional. If you would like to have your HP tracker broken into subsections by activity, art type, etc, you can add your own subtitles in here. (ex. Exploring, Hunting, Misc, or Fullbody, Headshot, That-Really-Cool-Comic-I-Made etc)
  5. Enter the Tokota's names in the Toko columns, filling in from the left. Leave any extras spaces blank.

    When you're done, it might look something like this:

  6. Once you have your HP logged you are ready to use the generator!

Some Important Things to Note!

  • Exclamation Do not use commas or special characters anywhere in the sheet!
  • Exclamation Do not move the columns around. Leave the template as it is.
  • You can use any format for the tokota's names (you could even use their IDs) that you want. Just make sure to use the same name consistently for a single tokota - do not for example use different nicknames like 'Bob 12345' and 'Bobby 12345', as the generator will think they are 2 different tokotas.
  • If different tokotas in the same piece have different HP counts, you may enter the same deviation multiple times into the sheet (just add a new row with the same thumb code). Only put the individual tokotas in the row for the count that applies to them. Like so:

OK! Now What? Where is my pretty journal??

Your master HP sheet is ready, but you cannot submit it to HU as is.

That's where the journal generator comes in!

Generating HTML for an HP Journal

Exclamation There is no need to do this step until you are ready to submit your HP for counting to HU.

  1. Save your spreadsheet as a CSV file. If using google sheets, go to your HP tracker tab and click File > Download As > Comma-separated values. Save the file to your computer at a location you will remember.
  2. Go to the generator's website
  3. Upload the CSV file.
  4. Select the name of the tokota you would like to generate a journal for.
  5. If your tokota was born submissive, check the 'Born submissive?' box. Otherwise, leave it unchecked. (This lets the generator know to create a sub-avg section or not)
  6. If your journal skin has coded boxes that use the blockquote tag, check the 'Use blockquotes' box. Otherwise, leave it unchecked.
  7. If you used sub-categories, check the 'Use subcategory headings' box. Otherwise, leave it unchecked.
  8. Press Generate HTML and copy the code.
  9. Create or edit a deviantART or stash journal, go to Edit > Switch to HTML mode, and paste in your generated HTML.
  10. Add in your tokotas import, tribe tracker link, previous confirmation comment links, and any other information you want (if you need to update in the HP in the future, you can leave this information at the top of the journal, delete all the HP below it and replace it with the HTML the generator gives you)
  11. Save your journal!

All of your HP will display as thumbnails and will be pre-separated into categories in the order that you entered it into the sheet!

Thoughts? Bugs? Let us know!

I hope you guys find this thing helpful!

If you have any more questions on how to use the generator, or you encounter a problem or a bug, just let me know in the comments. I'll do my best to help you out <3

My laptop broke. I'm using a 3rd generation iPad. Is this mobile friendly? I don't think I can save a file as a CSV?

I'm not sure if it works on mobile, you would have to test it out :o

It appears to be working fine for me at the moment. Are you getting any error messages of any kind?

No, it's just saying that it's loading. I waited an hour for it to load but nothing happened

Oh hmm, it should load fairly fast (ie. less than 1second, even for my very large sheet with several thousand entries)
Would you mind linking me a copy of your spreadsheet so we can take a look at it and see if we get the same error?

Alright, it looks like there was a small issue with how it was reading your spreadsheet. It should be fixed now :)
