Okay so that line means something completely different in the song than in this journal but I feel like it is fitting. It can make you scared, but only if you want it to.
Censorship continues to creep in at the edges, it seems to be slowly and aimed mostly only at visual art, I say mostly because several of you have had written works targeted as well. I have noticed that it started with photo-manip. folks, and then spread to DID creators, and now all the way to an amazing artist who I have featured several times who creates beautiful works.
Here are his thoughts and where the subsequent discussion is at present.
This beautiful shot got him a note suggesting that he remove the image, not telling, just suggesting. So it starts out with a little old fashioned melodramatic suggestive threat, and therefore from a place of very tenuous moral standing in my opinion. I believe it was handled thus because when one looks at it, you can see how it could be interpreted that the lady is touching herself erotically, or is covering herself, she could be stifling a yawn, or a cry of ecstasy.
It is all open to interpretation, which is inherently clever on the part of both model and photographer, and that is literally what makes it art and not porn. Porn is brazen and clear and gratuitous, whereas art is expressive and subtly suggestive. That this piece could be considered porn is an absolute anathema to me, and a slap in the face to art in general. Trying to push us back into the sixties. A woman's body is beautiful, and her pleasure is incredible. It is not degrading to something to show the potential for its beauty. Does anyone else feel that Neo-Feminism is starting to flirt with all out 'slut shaming?' While intending no offence to pornographic actresses or actors, I don't think it is fair to this model to insinuate that she is part of something pornographic.
In the end I feel like people decide to allow nude images to show up in their profile, and they should therefore be prepared for the fact that sometimes those nude people will be excited and not just casually being nude in a blaze way.
Anyhow, I could go on for hours and hours. What are your thoughts? Do you feel that this type of thing is trying to pigeon hole art into a barrower scope, and thereby taking us back into more conservative times.
Hi everybody. As some of you know I will be away in the remote north for three weeks beginning Thursday, and then onto Holland for at least a week, followed by about a week in Germany. I will have limited time and internet access at some points, and so will become a little less active for the next six weeks. Don't worry or fret if you don't hear from me or see submissions, I will be back.
Speaking of limited time; It has come to my attention that I was wrong about the readership of my journal. It seems that only the featured artist and a small contingent of friends are actually reading. So I am going to downgrade it to only The Featured Artist of the day, because the journal is time consuming and sometimes difficult. I will likely be in touch with the readers every couple of days anyway so I'm thinking its not a real loss for anyone.
That being said, I am still very excited to continue the Featured Artist of the Day, so with no further rambling let's get into it. Featured Artist of the Day
The first thought evoked by today's featured artist for me is 'Color treatment'. Every single piece shows an incredible use of color, whether dark and creepy, bright and whimsical, or vivid and intense, each piece is incredible even as a thumbnail.
The artist depicts the female form in all of its beautiful glory, but each piece also features a multitude of little details and easter eggs. So don't get hung up on the fact that at first glance it looks like a Heavy Metal Magazine Catlalogue, and there is a great deal more to see than that.
The gallery is fast and deep, like an ocean of color, shade, and light. Here are my favorites.
Good Morning Everyone. I hope that everyone had a fantastic weekend. Mine was a productive one, as I began readying myself for an interesting week, and for the impending change coming into my life, impending not always being a bad thing. I also started on a new commission (2nd so far) and so I feel invigorated and prepared.
Enough time has finally passed that I can at last work on the Gord Downie Tribute piece that has been nagging me for months but has been much too hard. I have submitted what I have so far, and please be very careful about the comments on this one, as I feel the weight of the world battling me on this one already.
Meanwhile I have done the preliminary work on the first two pieces of a five piece artwork for commission, and I may merge them today and submit the amalgamated.
In honor of the Gord Downie piece, I’m all about the Trag’, and the song that often keeps me grounded when the winds of my excitement and hyeperactivity threaten to blow me away. You know it can’t be Nashville every night.
Featured Artist of the Day
On Northernfly’s Gord Downie day, the featured artist must be a tireless one. Today’s artist is inspirational on several levels, and has taught me so much about growing your art network across multiple platforms (although I have not yet implemented any of that knowledge but it is all there) and in terms of drawing energy from the hardships of the past. She has pushed on through an experience that was hard on her soul, translating into some incredible visceral and beautifully sad poetry.
She also produces constant high quality Cosplay Art, Boudoir Art, and most recently I have become aware of a talent for Burlesque Belly Dancing. She is also an extremely avid gamer, and is forging her own social media empire, which includes a discord server that is an awesome hangout for all the gamers out there. Actually her approach to art in general reminds me of the growth and expansion of an RPG character in that new techniques and skills and connections are constantly being added to a character on the road to dominance.
If I had to some the body of her efforts up in a short sentence it would be as follows; Beautifully, tireless, and all-encompassing craft, on a vast scale. Go and take a look at her profile, and maybe check out one or all of her sites and profiles and give her a few extra clicks. She has worked hard enough to deserve them. Meanwhile, here are a few of my favorite works by the incomparable kaylynn-syrin.deviantart.com/
I challenge you to create a poem inspired by the incredible album cover for Fully Completely since its Gord Downie day on my profile.
Quote of the Day
During the last tour, deep into the battle with terminal brain cancer, upon completion of an album meant to encourage and yet to wake us all up. He died less than 90 days later, having given everything for his fans, countrymen/women, and to music itself.
Alright everyone I got a crying jag coming on so as always be good to each other, and put a little good into the world today, just like Gord would have.
I don't know why, but there is just something a little strange and creepy here this morning. Shrug. I am therefore embracing it with one of my favorite Maiden Tunes. Fear of the Dark.
I decided today that I would post a couple photos, since I have not done so in some time. The first is from one of many flights over the Rockies, and I do always catch the 'Red Eye' in hopes of seeing dusk like this.
Meanwhile, I would like to point out that there are some incredible sand sculptures at these international competitions. Check it out on google and be blown away, and take the next chance to go in person. I could stare at these things for hours, and circle around them, seeing every beautiful angle. This is from an annual competition in Parksville, British Columbia.
Featured Artist of the day
Today's featured artist has an absolute mastery over sharp contrast coming out of dark tones. I always admire people who can work from a very dark pallet, as it is something that completely escapes me. Go and take a look at this beautiful gallery for yourself. Here are my personal favorites.
Quote of the Day
I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death. Leonardo Da Vinci
Anyhow be very goo to each other today, and try not to keep it between the lines. Unless you are driving, in which case act accordingly.

Well I dont often wave the Olympic flag, but the Maple Leaf along with the Norwegian flags are waving very high in the Olympic Village today.
Norway and Canada sit 1st and 2nd in the metal count with a combined population of 41,000,000.
Germany, the United States, and China have a combined population of 1,785,000,000 and cannot get past either of the dominant winter nations.
In terms of population we should only get one metal for every forty three generated by the big three.
I'm also not really big on the bible, but this is certainly akin to the David and Goliath story we all know.
Sorry everyone, should have kept your eyes on the sling.
