I mostly write and make the occasional bit of digital art.

I'm fascinated by three things: that which exists within the universe; that which exists beyond; and that which might exist.

One of my kids graduated from college in December, 2008, is helping her husband run a business, and both have a two-year-old keeping them busy; another is a cartoonist; #3 daughter is a writer; my son works at a discount store, and is developing a digital game with #3 and #1 daughters.

  Fogbound in Minnesota
I had a full, adequate night's sleep last night - for the first time in weeks. Four hours was all I managed on the night before that. It's frustrating. And, more to the point, not good for mental clarity. An obvious cause for sleep disturbances are muscle cramps - but what's causing them isn't entirely clear either.
Enough of the self-pity. Now, the reason I'm writing this - - - you may, or may not, have noticed that I usually check in here at Deviant Art daily. That didn't happen today, and may not happen tomorrow.
Today I was, technically, awake. But I wasn't up to even the light mental exercise involved in weeing what folks have posted, deciding where and how to react and all that. If it was a 'fate of the universe is at stake' situation - - -  but it wasn't, and I didn't want to trust my hazy judgment.
And, to be honest, I kept forgetting parts of my daily routine. Maybe I'll have another adequate allotment of sleep. That would be nice.
Thanks for you
I got a ride home yesterday evening, after an excessively interesting Thursday night and Friday. I'm still fogbound, which is pretty good. Considering some alternatives.

The good news is that I didn't have a stroke Thursday night.

The somewhat-unsettling news is that it took a local emergency room and hospital in the town/city down the road to make sure. The experience was stressful for my family.

Me, too: but being in the middle of the processes helped distract me. Their main distraction, other than getting sporadic reports as the medicos eliminated possibilities, was water heater. It failed, flooding the basement.

Being fascinated by tech and not claustrophobic let me enjoy my first session inside a MRI. It's very white, and loud. That process took about a half-hour. Toward the end, the muffled white noise and nearly information-free visual field almost had me sleeping. I wouldn't recommend the experience to anyone who is even slightly claustrophobic.

The medicos still don't know what happened Thursday night. It could have been a [medical technobabble] that was, technically, a minor stroke: but which left no physical evidence or perceptible behavior changes. Or it could have been something else.

Since I'm in several risk categories for stroke, there's a mess of lifestyle changes I'd need to make. Assuming that I don't want to put myself or my family through that again. With possibly-fatal results. Which would arguably be among the better-case scenarios. I'm far from perfect, but have learned to like the personality I have. For the most part, and that's another topic.

Since I was already doing the 'try to stay alive' stuff, there isn't much I need to change. That's good news too.

I'm almost awake today, and hope for another uneventful night's sleep. Instead of fretting over what I'm still to fogged to do, I'm taking it easy -- doing what I can and skipping what I can't. I'll probably get back to my usual habits when the fog lifts -- and not a moment before that.

Your reason for donating points - - - is something you must decide for yourself.

Maybe it's the warm feeling you get when giving. Maybe you think encouraging me is a good idea. Maybe your reason is something completely different.

My reason for wanting points? Eventually, I hope to have enough to purchase a print from's Marketplace.

Why 2,001 as a goal? "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968) is among my favorite films: and it seemed like a reasonable number as a goal, for now.

Thank you for adding “John Streak Goes to Tahiti” to your favorites. I am afraid that I have inflicted my sense of humor and storytelling onto poor :iconkyuubi55:  and her Original Character.

And thank you for adding “Junkrat revs up” to your favorites.

While I do not do a lot of gaming myself I have been on the periphel for years  by doing art for people and on a few occasions for the games themselves

Thank you for adding Echinocereus pectinatus to your favorites.

I love my Native plants and many of my specimens like this one are seed grown.
