Adding some technical results after a number of different trials I opted to make the belt as a prop (i.e. not a conforming item) that is parenting automatically to the figure. It is designed for Genesis 8 Female in Daz Studio, but I have included also the obj file in case you want to use it in other modeling software.

Being a prop allows maximum flexibility in posing and scaling. And also express in my view more accurately the relative rigidity of it. However, for heavily morphed characters it might need some adjusting either with the scaling or using the two specific shape dials I have added, to increase the width and the depth.

I have run several tests and the functionality seemed to be ok. Let me know in case of issues as it might be difficult to spot them. I have used it in the attached render.
