The Victorious King by Noloter The Victorious King by Noloter
At last I finished this second portrait during Chistmas Holidays (Jenuary 2010), which makes a trio with two other works of mine (#1: [link] ; #3: [link] ) . I made it by request of a friend of mine who's very interested in History.
It's based on a picture I found on the Net.

H.M. Victor Emmanuel III was King of Italy from 1900 to 1946 and Emperor of Ethiopia from 1936 to 1943.
During his long reign Italy completed its unification process by annexing Trentino-Alto Adige, Istria and some Adriatic islands, and became a Colonial Power by conquering Albany, some Aegean islands, Lybia and East Africa.
After Italy's victory in the WWI against Austria-Hungary in 1918, Italian people nicknamed him "il Re Vittorioso" ("the Victorious King").
November 4th, the armistice day, is still solemnly celebreted as "victory Day" or "National Unity and Armed Forces Day", even now that Italy's a democratic Republic.

I hope you like it ^^
