Erik Eels used to be a nerd with thick eyeglasses. He was Joseph Dunn's classmate, but what happened to his life proves that the quote "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is true.
Erik was struck by lightning twice, but he survived. The first time happened when he was 12. His dad, John Eels, was on the same train that was derailed by Mr.Glass. Erik went to see his dad's body at the hospital, and was struck by lightning while he was on the way. He was lying unconscious for 3 days. When he recovered, he not only found some faint and strange scars on his body but could also discharge electricity a little bit when he was mad or excited. He felt some mysterious power that was hidden deep inside, and didn't have to wear eyeglasses anymore. The big boys in his school stopped bullying him, and started calling him Mr. Electric Eel instead.
The second time Erik was struck by lightning happened many years later, on a rainy night, while he was trying to find his sister Annie who was abducted and killed by the beast. This time his scars became conspicuous, and he gained 10 times the amount of electricity inside his body. He almost accidentally killed his girlfriend once when he was kissing her. Fortunately, he later learned how to control his electricity much better.
Erik knows the pain of losing loved ones so well. He intends to use his power to avenge his dad and sister and get rid of all the rascals in this town. Erik is the guy that David Dunn always wanted to be. He's younger, single and isn't afraid of water. In fact, he feels fresh and more powerful in the rain. Erik is looking for the third stroke of lightning. He believes that it will make him invincible. Erik is the kind of HERO whose existence will make Mr.Glass open his eyes wide with excitement.
