Chapter 13: The Golden Hour Coming back home from the hospital had worn Miki out a little more than she thought it would.  Her family had come to take her home, and their buzzing around her was a lot.  The care they showed for her was appreciated… but still exhausting.  Thankfully, it wasn’t anything that a few hours nap couldn’t fix.  Even though the hospital bed Miki had spent the last few nights in was perfectly serviceable, it didn’t compare to the cosiness and sense of safety her own bed gave her.   In her room, the only sounds she’d be able to hear were the chatter of her family, or the birds, or the goings-on of her neighbours – not of strangers wondering if their loved one would be alright, or patients screaming out in pain – and certainly not the beeping of medical equipment that had now begun to cause dread in Miki’s mind whenever she heard it.   But she didn’t have to hear that now, she was safe back at home, and now freer to attempt to take a better hold of her
