That's Itachi I'm talking about. Always cool and emotionless. But is he really such a cold bastard? I wouldn't say so. Well, I guess You know what I'm talking about...
And I just wanted to say -unfortunately Itachi doesn't exist, but when I imagine him in real world, he's undoubtedly like that. Another great work of You which I can just respect!

Have a nice day!

I love to think that the inner Itachi is kind, and really peaceful, although outwardly he appears emotionless. For this I'm not sure he really has commited the massacre. Thinking to chapter 403, and his conversation with Naruto, it seems he was happy to hear the answer he expected, that 'never give up' even in front of a terrible choice. I can't believe he didn't reached the same decision.
Thank you very much, and have a nice day to you too :)

No problem... It's actually your "fault" that I fall in "deep thoughts" and think about it. You can make art alive and that is what makes your "Itachi's" really great! :)

Oh, if that's the case, OK, you can tell me anything you want! I can even try to write in italian to help you!

I think that when he says "A ninja must make painful choices", this means he did commit the massacre. And the only thing he could do was begging Sarutobi to spare, at least, Sasuke's life. Otherwise, Itachi and Madara would be the only surviving Uchiha now and Kakashi with Danzo with their Sharingans!

About Madara: Itachi said: “He remains alive and well, as do his eyes and their power”. Also, Minato (he fought with both the Kyubi and Madara that night, oh my hero!!) referred to him as “a very powerful ninja”, but until now we have seen a Madara that uses only this body flicker jutsu (many fans say that he has learned it from Minato and improved it to be not only space-, but also a time-flicker jutsu). However, he showed extreme strength when stopping with his bare arm Suigetsu’s sword or later when amputating his own arm with the other. And then we see him with his two hands all well. So, he surely hides many powers, but he is not his former self.

The only thing I don't understand is why, for God's sake, Minato couldn't win that night against a weaken Madara, when Kishimoto has stated that Minato and Sarutobi are the strongest ninja among the dead. If Minato was stronger than Hashirama, who beat Madara in his strongest form and with EMS, why he couldn't win against him, when he was "a shell of his former self"? But yes, I know there is the plot (hole) no jutsu who is stronger than all!! :)

OK, to make you happy, we will hear from Itachi again, when Naruto will reveal his gift, probably during his fight with Sasuke. And Kishi, just like he made the Kakashi Gaiden, he also wants to make at some time an "Itachi Nagori" (Itachi's memories)!

[link]

Fingers crossed!

Yes, his words could mean he did it, it's possible. I'm not questioning if he were there to kill the clan or not, but I prefer to think that Itachi, in his heart, had not gave up his intentions until the last, as so as he expected to hear from Naruto. It's also unthinkable that he could continue to live with such remorse.

You're right about Minato ^^; there's really a plot hole! o_-

I knew of that interview, but Kishi said he'd liked to draw some memories about Itachi, but he couldn't do it :( sigh!

thank you so much, anyway! :glomp:

I see you have taken this seriously! :) Thanks for the bother to read my above rant!

Shisui would have died either way, as all the Uchiha had to been killed. But he had previously spied Itachi and Itachi had to kill him (willingly, so that Shisui won't reveal his plans or maybe by orders from the Konoha elders again) and this painful loss (he considered him as his older brother) made him develop his MS.

I think that Itachi indeed commit the massacre and Madara just helped him, otherwise Konoha wouldn't bother to order him this, they could have given he order to many ANBU. No matter how much stronger was Itachi, I think that the whole ANBU would manage to kill Uchiha when they were sleeping and Itachi would just help them. But no, he was assigned this mission all alone and he would have done it all alone, but few days earlier he met Madara and asked for his help. I said, he maybe used a Tsukuyomi to kill them, not necessarily a sword. (That time, he could use Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu without stretching his eyes.) However, he also showed the massacre to Sasuke in an illusion, I know that he could have made these pictures, but the houses were indeed shown blood covered and in NS 135 we see him killing with his own hands the people. (Yet again, it's a bit of filler image.)

Well, whatever, if you think about it, if we accept the fact that he indeed killed his clan, this makes him much more of a hero, as throughout his life he was forced to make things he didn't want: all right, killing the Uchiha, but he was then forced to join the Akatsuki and commit other crimes too, to people that he didn't know and was not related to and then seal the Jinchuriki, thus killing them. Imagine his pain when he had to seal Gaara, a 16 year old child, the age of his little brother. Or Roshi, a poor old man, maybe in the age of his grandfather.

[link]

Poor Itachi, he was always forced to make things he didn't want, and above all killing (that's why he was using his Tsukuyomi so much, he spared the life of his opponents and ended quickly his battles, leaving them only faint). I really pity him and his sacrifice, because until now, he has achieved nothing: Orochimaru will appear again, Madara is safe from any Amaterasu and has made Sasuke his pawn, Sasuke becomes a real demon, Konoha was destroyed and will probably be destroyed again, a World War is on the way and his only hope now is Naruto. What a surprise, Naruto will solve everything!

About Itachi's illness: I think that Itachi seems surprised in that panel, because in the next panel Sasuke starts to break out of his Tsukuyomi and, indeed, with the help of his cursed seal that Itachi wanted to free him of. I can't believe Madara managed to even scratch Itachi, he is so weak that the only think he can do is dancing from place to place! Only defense, not at all offensive, he doesn't even have a kunai ever. And Itachi would die either way in this battle, he wanted to die and Madara knew it, so he wouldn't bother to interfere.

I think Itachi was indeed ill, Kisame was always afraid of his state and cared not to overdo it with his MS and not standing in the cold. When Itachi stood out in the rain, crying for Sasuke's "death" by Deidara, Kisame said "You will ruin your health". And he managed to make this far in his fight, being ill or, if you are right, stabbed, imagine if he was completely well, he would have done miracles (and Madara said that he never showed his true strength)! :wow: Who knows what we will never learn about him... Oh yes, maybe he could summon a hawk that Sasuke also used later (he has taken everything his brother had :X, how unoriginal! In the end, this boy will change his name to Sasuchi!)

Believe me or not, but I have NOT italians friends which to talk about Naruto...

^^
Yes, Itachi could have committed the massacre, just 'his duty', it was'for the sake of Konoha', as said from Madara... but it contradicts what this part suggests me about Itachi's 'ninja way':
[link] he said the same as Jiraya
[link] and he approved that irresponsible answer from Naruto - because, both Itachi and Jiraya (dead in the same moment, as you noticed before) think the same - they set benevolence above wisdom, they prefer being 'fool' instead of being 'cautious'. How could Itachi be helpful to Naruto, in choosing between Konoha and Sasuke, if really he'd chosen before to be 'wise' and to kill his parents and the entire clan?

about Madara: he's very shrewd, because he lets people understimate him. Just his body is innatural, he's got time warp (Minato too, if I'm not wrong) and dimensional warp techniques. Surely he's not anymore 'that' Madara, as said from Itachi, but surely he's got some kind of power. Otherwise, he would be already killed from Itachi, for the sake of Konoha (Itachi knew well that he, Madara, was going to control Sasuke after his death).

About Tsukuyomi... eh eh, quite the contrary: I can't believe Sasuke had interrupted it with his own hatred, or cursed seal... no, I'm pretty sure that Itachi was looking at someone at his left side (and Sasuke was in front of him).

Kisame was always watching over Itachi's health, just to keep the 'spare' in good condition... nah, Itachi hadn't any ill but the Mangekyou Sharingan, which was going to make he blind and then useless.

Anyways - who knows what Kishimoto will think to develope in this story... I'm not optimist for what concerns Itachi, alas!

Second part, the rest of your points.

About Madara's talk with Sasuke and his lies: Madara lied when he said that his brother willingly gave him his eyes (he also crosses his arms, a sign of defense against his participant) and Sasuke probably realised it.

[link]

"All I ever wanted was to protect the Uchiha clan". Yes, and then to kill them... Come on, he is just evil, Sasuke knows it and then they are best friends... But who knows, exactly like Madara is using him, maybe Sasuke is using him too and then betray him like he did to Oro.

His biggest lie was about the Kyubi: he said that only a Sharingan can manipulate it and, immediately after, he says that this was a coincidence! Minato also told later Naruto the truth. Of course, if you think about it, he is responsible for most deaths in Naruverse: Minato :cries:, Iruka's parents and so many others that night, all people that Akatsuki have killed, i.e. Asuma, all the Jinchuriki, all the Uchiha, Itachi, Jiraiya (did you realise that these two died perhaps the same hour?... Naruto and Sasuke are linked again...), Danzo, whoever Sauke has killed and will kill etc etc. Waah, somehow he has killed all my heroes! :(

About Sasuke's MS: I think that he would developed it, sooner or later, because, if you witness the death of one dear person, you are able to develop it, even if this death is insignificant for you (i.e. Kakashi: Obito was his friend not his brother and Itachi was really surprised when he realised this: "Oh God, I should not have killed Shisui, there were so many other ways!" :) ). But this is my thought only. And yes, even if Sasuke turn Madara down at one point, he will not return to Konoha, only Naruto can do this anymore.

About the massacre: Itachi could have killed them with Tsukuyomi in just one second. (Kakashi: "He didn't kill me. He could, if he tried".) Well, whatever, the non bloody clothes are a minor detail, in my opinion, maybe Kishi's drawing mistake.

About Itachi's illness: Madara wasn't in this dimension, everything was in Sasuke's head, Madara was fighting Naruto that moment. Medically speaking (although in Naruverse the laws of nature/medicine are not followed so much), Itachi probably had Tuberculosis (TB: it’s a mycobacterium, not a virus), that’s why grasping his chest, the cough, the gasping, the blood spitting and his so thin body. Akatsuki were spending their time in sunless caves or out in the rain while sealing the bijū, so it was something that would unavoidably happen and the medicines just prolonged a little bit his life. (Kimimaro probably had the same illness, and he died only 15 years old, having spend most of his years in a sunless, humid prison and then in Oro's hideout). Psychological state is also an important factor in this case: Itachi was always sad and sorrowful, because of his tragic past and his even more tragic and predestined future (he knew he was going to die, probably in vain, as he suspected that Sasuke wouldn't obey his dying wish to return to Konoha).

I hope I covered all your thoughts! Yes, there are many things that we have yet to see, so, just patience until everything is revealed (and all the bad guys are killed)! :evillaugh:

develope of MS: uhm, I think that it's necessary to realize of the loss of a dear one, together with feeling guilty . Anyway I don't believe that Itachi killed Shisui with the intent to obtain MS. The last words attributed to Shisui, suit better for Itachi, especially in that moment. Shisui is dead: maybe by hand of Itachi or not, but I can't believe he wanted his death to get a new power. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds out of character.

the massacre: his clean clothes isn't a drawing mistake, because it was drawn in 2 chapters, ever in different drawings (chapters 146 and 224), and in the anime too:)
I think that the clan could accepted Sarutobi's truce, but Madara had killed them all to not miss this unique opportunity. Don't forget that Madara has a kind of time control power - he could have transfer Itachi in another dimension (that one with cubes) just to stop him, and to kill everyone undisturbed. And further, don't forget that Madara and Danzou were in touch, their last meeting was just the night of massacre - and both of them wanted the end of Uchiha bloodline.

Itachi's illness: oh, I don't believe to this, at all! :D he was in good form until the tsukuyomi. Yes, it would be a moving detail, but it's not true, in my opinion ^^ I linked that page, because you have to notice Itachi's expression at top-left panel, it clearly shows he's seeing someone at his left side. Try to invert colours and you'll see better. So, there was someone in that dimension, a mental dimension made and controlled from Itachi, and not from Sasuke. I imagine that only Madara could enter in a dimension like this, and maybe he has stabbed Itachi, and has synchronized his death to happen later, at the right time. Because for Madara was undoubtely necessary the departure of Itachi at the right moment... he was only waiting to take Sasuke on his side (remeber, when he talked to Pain about him), and Itachi was an obstacle (not to mention, he was his spare, too, asd)

Thank you for your kindness and patience! :)

Well, let's see your points: Sasuke indeed is prone to hatred. (We said, he's an Uchiha! That's why the evil smile above his brother: he was not evil from the start, he wanted indeed to kill, but only one person, he would probably return to Konoha later as a hero, to restore his clan, exactly what Itachi wanted for him to do. But again, if you think about it, maybe just only the thought of killing someone makes you automatically a bad person, who knows?) So, Madara used this hatred for his own goals, and he has indeed confirmed this a lot of times to Pain, Zetsu, Naruto, Kakashi and Yamato.

About Sasuke being Madara, I agree with you. Kishi said that the Sasuke - Naruto fight will be the last thing to happen in the series, so he is the ultimate evil character, all other (Madara, Kabuto, Kisame and Zetsu) will be eliminated somehow.

The second part of my comment. So sorry for jabbering and taking all this space... :(

Well, the “Madara reason” was my first argument and I think the most important. At the pre-Itachi time, Sasuke hadn’t killed a single person, but now he can kill even… Akamaru in cold blood. He was never a bad person, in the sense of this word, and he knew very well all other sentiments, but he chose to ignore them. And he's not the type to listen to others, as both Kakashi (in Part 1) and Madara had to tie him to make him to listen to them!

I think that after each meeting with Madara, he becomes more and more evil. At first, he saved Karin from Amaterasu and Killer Bee and few days later, he “killed” her, while smiling! He abandoned his teammates in the Kage Summit, that he had also saved (and had been saved by them) few days ago and finally implanted his brother eyes (God, I really can't realise even now the awfulness of this action...), although at first he had rejected this idea.

Also, read this:

[link]

Pay attention to Madara’s declaration. He used exactly the same words that Sasuke is using right now. I think Sasuke is really manipulated by Madara, either with a jutsu or with mere brainwashing. I really think he would return to Konoha after his fight with Itachi, if Madara hadn't talked to him. (And, come on, Madara was responsible too, by sending the Kyubi to Konoha that made Danzo and the others condemn the Uchiha, and had also helped Itachi to the massacre, but Sasuke has never told him anything...) Also, Madara is the one who has “designed” the final Sasuke - Naruto fight and will force Sasuke to it:

[link]

In the end, my friend admitted that Sasuke is under a genjutsu or more probably brainwashed, as he can be influenced easily; however, she said there was a record of hatred (after all, he is a genuine Uchiha!) that Madara manipulated and used for his own goals. (Lol, her favourite character is Kakashi and I tease her, because my hero beat hers in mere seconds! :D )

P.S. She found, along with the rest, your "Kiss - request" amazing! :)

Don't worry, I like very much to speak about our thoughts!

Madara is using Sasuke, just because he's more prone to revenge, and so he's easier to control for his own purposes - differently, Nagato in his heart always wished for peace, and Itachi, further, was always impermeable to someone else's influences (just like Naruto). I don' t think that Madara is manipulating him through a genjutsu, but that simply he's exploiting Sasuke's nature. I'll never forget his creepy smile right above Itachi's corpse:
[link]
this smile made me think, I found it very realistic to depicting a dark soul, it looked like a subtle evil smile. And this was happened before to meet with Madara...

About Madara's declaration, maybe Sasuke will be the 'new' Madara, in fact for both of them there were the sacrifice of their brothers for village's good. At the end, they could have good reasons to hate the village, though! Prejudice and unjustice (and indifference) towards Uchiha clan is the core of the question, both now and at Madara's days.

Ah, just one thing... Madara has told that Itachi gave to Sasuke a new power by dying in front of him. But, if it's true, why should have Itachi implant an Amaterasu, just to kill that one who could reveal his secrets, the only key to develope Sasuke's MS? this is a big contradiction. Well, not to mention about the clean anbu suit in the night of the massacre, and that providential illness of Itachi (that, oh  starts just after the interruption of Tsukuyomi... [link] I'm so sure there was Madara, in that dimension!! :chainsaw:)- I think a lot of things are still hidden, and Sasuke has to open his eyes. Maybe at the end he could get the truth, and only at this point he could rebel to Madara's influence. Though, I'm not sure he also could forgive Konoha...

P.s.: thanks to your friend ^___^

Thanks so much for the bother! And your english are really good!

Interesting answer. As expected! I will tell you what others had told me:

1. "I think Madara is to blame, Itachi said to Naruto right before Sasuke fought him that Sasuke was still a blank canvas."

2. "Actually, a more logical response would be going into depression. When Megatron killed Optimus (from Transformers), he went into a depression. When Goku was gone, same thing happened to Vegeta (from Dragonball). Remember that taking out this one person is your reason for living, remove that person and what happens? You no longer have a reason for living, i.e depression."

3. "Madara [...] just manipulated him with the one fatal flaw that nearly all Uchihas have which is his pride."

My opinion in the next comment, in order not to tire you!

I like playing with theories and making new of them, so, if you want, I would like to hear your opinion about something and sorry in advance if I take a lot of space!

I had a few weeks ago a discussion with a friend and she insisted that it’s only Itachi’s fault for the Sasuke’s current situation. By saying to a young child “hate me”, “still missing hatred”, “you lack hatred” etc., he taught Sasuke to develop only this sentiment. So, after Sasuke had learned the truth, he could not feel (he didn’t know, he hadn't learned) any other sentiment, there was no more place for something else in his heart. When you have spent most years of your life with hatred in your heart, you can’t just change so simply and immediately your perception of life and feel something else, like love / hope / faith / happiness etc. or just obey and forget everything and become a “law-abiding citizen”.

You know my opinion for Itachi, so I rejected this point of view. I have many counter arguments to turn this down and I have posed this question to other people too and received some answers, but I would like and it would be interesting to hear your opinion. (You are also out of the average age-group of Naruto fans, so I suppose you must have seen the general Naruto story with another eye.)

Thanks for asking my opinion ^^
Well - I would say that it's rather naive to attribute all the current evil of Sasuke to Itachi only. Itachi has induced Sasuke to hate him, but just only to himself, not the whole world.
Sasuke has always made decisions individually, opposed to those of his brother, for a spirit of rivalry (towards Itachi), pride (for the clan), conceit (towards Naruto).
Claiming that Sasuke has grown not able to feel love and benevolence because of plagiarism, is equivalent to define him a guy with no character... uhm. I think to Gaara, who had a similar experience, and Nagato, and even Naruto. They all want the good despite their difficulties - so, if a person is inclined to good, nobody can wipe his hope and his need of love. So, I think that Sasuke has taken every decision according to his will, which unfortunately tends to evil.

Sorry for my english ^^"
