Abstract Portfolio by niteangel Abstract Portfolio by niteangel
Two pages of my portfolio
Two A4 pages meaning one A3 page here.

It is inside one of the two volumes of my portfolio. I have to create my portfolio for applying the Master degree programme at the University, and there will be two volumes. The first is mostly about architecture and my parttime jobs, while the second one, this one, is about my abstract art and graphic designs.

Have a look at this layout design, I am actually very very happy with this ;) How's it?

I think there was a typo however. You said "Buy" instead of "BuT" in the first or second paragraph. Awesome analysis of abstract art btw.

Oh yeah... :) thanks. Interestingly enough in the real print (as it is part of my portfolio for work) it is written as "BUT".

its amazing. i mean, very rarely i ever see anything that inspires me more than just in the pretty colors, shapes or compostition. i love what you wrote. its well thought and very beautiful. i can't explain why, but it provokes a lot of thought about what i hope so much to do one day. i mean i could just say that the blue swirl at the top is really neat, or just give you a smiley and say gj, but i took the time to read all of that, so i figured i should write just a little bit more. but, i really do like it. its balanced. its thought provoking.

hmmm, I'm thinking about doin some magazine, so for the pages, i need documents of A3 size isnt it?

but this pretty hard to me, its because i need really large res pics for it.
do i need to create the document in A3 size with the 300 dpi? i think it will be impossible to get some pictures large enough to fill that size:(
do you think i could work this out just by resizing the document and lowering the dpi?

please answer as fast as you can

A3 or not it all depends on the size of your book!

And 300 DPI is the standard. If you can't have that, you can use at least 150dpi. That's like half of 300dpi and so I think it will be okay.

:) still, DPI is the requirements of your print shop. If they want that high you have to make that high.

the book pages will be the size of an A4 each, so every 2 pages i have an A3.

will it really be ok with half the dpi?

thx for your time man

You are right.

Lowering the DPI is never a good thing but as long as the quality is okay you can do so. But remember, ask the print shop for what to do.

well, its because i cant really take photos of that size, the max resolution of mine is 3.2 megapixels...

I'd need something like the double to fill an A3

To me it looks like there are some hierarchy problems, my mind wants to start over at the top right because more is happening over there and it grabs my eye more (also there are bigger paragraphs over there). I also think your white lines around the separated abstract text is a little confusing. They point to the next paragraph in some cases (which is helpful since there isn't really a change in tone to point to the next one), but in some cases they point opposite, it's really confusing, I want to read it as two columns but I'm really unsure of how to go about it, which shouldn't be happening because as a designer you need to be able to control the viewer.

As a composition, change the right side of the piece to cutoff the edge of the large C and tell me you don't like the composition better then (running stuff off the page might help pull the viewer to actually turn the page and look). Also the size of the white bar is really pulling my eye down from the text since a block of white is much brighter than the white text.

Since it's for your abstract work, I've noticed you have a lot of nice curves and diagonals, why do you have to keep to block paragraphs then? You can do much more with text to create a sense (not having to rely on graphic elements too) of movement and flow (using the curves off the image on the page for instance).

And don't center the text in the paragraph (1st on top right); it really creates readability problems (and I've never run across anybody who likes it like that when its spread over an entire paragraph). This would be a good chance to run the paragraph along the curve of the letter C perhaps.

my .02 cents.

It might read a little different when the two pages are folded but most of this stuff should still apply.
My .02 cents.

Very nice, clean, crisp work, na..

Not too sure about the hyphen in the top left though. Hyphens put me off.

Otherwise really good except the text is really small on my screen >.<

I don't know, I like this because of its bold originality and the statement it makes, but that fact that you've been so creative condemns you to scepticism. Careful.

hmm, not bad, but I think you can do much better, in fact I KNOW you can considering your "angelic" work on your website...a suggestion...the "running text" don't know the word in english :D is to small in size in my opinion..keep it up m8*
