i think mermaids are very pretty and fun to draw, if it's not a fetish to you personally and you enjoy drawing them for a non-sexual reason then there is no need to worry! you could always add a disclaimer on your drawings that your art isn't a fetish!
The surge of mermaids is because of Mermay, a drawing fad where you draw a mermaid for every day in May. But considering this is the internet, it's not hard for that to titillate horny randos and turn it into a fetish for sure.
I don't think so honestly. At least it shouldn't be. If someone drawing the picture over-sexualize the character, and/or draw them without tops (when it's not part of the character design or personality of course), then I think that might be the case. But I don't think this should be considered a fetish under normal circumstances.
Not necessarily. However, there are some people that obsess over things to the point they might be. Honestly, the only time I'd ever consider mermaids a fetish is if they're really oversexualized and if said requester is super obsessed with them. Mermaids, genies, and bellydancers aren't really fetishlike to be honest, it's just some of the people on DA that turn everything into fetishes.
Well, to be honest, I don't necessarily consider this a fetish like many. It's depending on the way one draws them. However, there are fetishes, notably sexual ones, that I find more disgusting than pretty to me; in case an point, vore, diaper, choking, etc. UGH! These are bad fetishes that disgust me a lot. To be honest, I consider that mermaids, fairies, genies, etc. are not necessarily a fetish, but it depends on the way you draw them.
it depends on if the requester has a fetish for mermaids or not. judging the person who requests you to draw him mermaid pictures, it's clear that he has at least some sort of fetish for mermaids, and i understand you might be uncomfortable with this. it's really only a fetish if you see it in that point of view. (however, i dont think it's that common...)
I guess it could. But it really depends on how it is drawn? Topless would probably be kind of fetish-y. Or even turning characters that aren't mermaids originally could be as well. If it is a fetish, it's definitely not as extreme as some others I have seen. Which I won't bother to name, because I will not be fetish shaming anything.
In this world, I feel nearly anything can be considered a fetish. With mermaids, I guess it could depend on how you draw them. Nude mermaids are more fetish-y than covered up ones (but that's just kinda obvious).
In all honesty, I hope that mermaids aren't fetish art... It would just damper my love of them.
Don't let them get to you. That's their opinion and while they have a right to it, it shouldn't affect you. Please keep drawing mermaids and genies, I like them.
As you can guess, I don't think mermaids or genies or bellydancers count as a fetish. If they're drawn naked, or oversexualized (huge butts or breasts) then they're a fetish but like most things it's not automatic.
