Severe Floods in Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia! by nina-Y Severe Floods in Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia! by nina-Y
This is not Art related, but it is very important!
Please read!

"Three months' worth of rain fell on the region in just a few days, causing rivers to burst their banks and sweep into people's homes."
-BBC News

This horrific catastrophe in flooding is the worst in over 120 years, since records began.
As death toll rises, tens of thousands of people are forced to evacuate and leave their whole lives behind.
Imagine what this must feel like, this utter hopelessness as you watch in horror how your house crumbles away into the muddy water...and you are just completely powerless. I shudder at this thought.

While the solidarity in Balkans and other EU/non EU Nations is overwhelming and is truly bringing people together, the whole situation remains absolutely heartbreaking.
These people are good citizens who made simple, honest living, but now everything they had, is gone.
People, houses, livelihood - perished.

They really need help! And in situations like this, any help is so very welcome!

You can do a great thing by donating any of the following:

Any financial help is greatly needed and appreciated. Direct donations via PayPal are available: floodrelief.gov.rs/

Some of the evacuated people have relatives to stay with, but many do not. In the last photo, you can see one of the temporary shelters for these people. They really need the following: baby food, baby clothes, powdered milk, nappies, wet wipes, canned food, bottled water, blankets, towels, clothes, flashlights, hygiene products (soaps, dry wash products, hand sanitizers, toothbrushes...really, whatever you can spare - it would be most welcome.)

However, you can do your own research on how it would best suit YOU to donate money as well as other necessities.
I would respectfully suggest that you read up a bit more on this matter and decide if and how you can help. Please share it on!

Thankfully my family wasn't hit in the part of Croatia we live but I'm thankful that you're spreading the news about this, especially since it's not a region you're from. It restores my faith in humanity when I see people worried about something that doesn't affect them personally. You're a wonderful being and soul. The sad part about this whole tragedy is that there are land mines in Bosnia that were underground. The flood has resurfaced them and is a threat for people if they accidentally step on one now that they're covered with just mud alone. It's a crazy scary situation and I pray that the people from my own country as well as the Serbians and the Bosnians can come through this together and stronger.

It's truly heartbreaking to lose ones home because unlike most of the other countries out there. We here tend to keep homes through many generations. Great great grandparents have passed land as well as homes to their children and all the way down the line. So it's depressing to see that these homes that were built ages ago and have been passed down, are now just simply destroyed by water. May the grace of light find and give these people hope and a bright future!

Thanks a lot for spreading the word about this.
For the first few days, there was next to no international coverage, but I'm glad to see that it's finally out there. A lot of celebrities have been spreading the word, and people are sending help from all directions.
It's gonna take a long while before things go back to normal and people get back on their feet, but I'm glad that most have left the past in the past and realized that we're all in this together. It's wonderful to see people helping each other.

Thank you for this. For a week 'bout 90% of each news shown on TV has consisted of flood info in our country and our neighbors Serbia and Bosnia who have it even worse than we. It's really incredible, the sums of money for the victims we've collected, the amounts of supplies bought and sent where needed, the people from all parts of the country going there and helping, people accepting strangers in need into their homes, affected countries helping each other. Aside from lives lost and property destroyed, gone, all to be future income (and future food obviously) from agriculture for which this part of country is known is gone, and the farm animals...dead in thousands and the cadavers floating or laying around a big threat for health, especially Bosnia - they have so many dead cows they asked us for help to take away and burn the cadavers because they don't have enough capacities. Also god knows how many pets are dead too. They saved hundreds of pets, who knows how many will never return to their humans and how many will need to be adopted. They're literally going around catching and saving the poor animals that are still alive. This is the last thing we needed, all 3 countries are already in a really bad economic situation and many people who lost everything were already (very) poor - how are they gonna rebuild their homes and life? Potential help from EU funds can't be used for rebuilding people's individual homes and property but for infrastructure and stuff, and even if there is some help from the country, the majority of the money needed to rebuild their private property and return everything they lost the people will have to get by themselves somehow. Many of them probably already have loans to return on property that no longer exists. Even the houses that are still more or less habitable, just the time it will need to dry the walls, to dry everything, repair stuff...Many people won't be able to return for at least a half a year. Anyway, it's so surreal, here where I am it's sun and birds chirping and on the other side of the country is the bloody apocalypse!

Inace, ovde donedavno niko nista nije znao.

Pozzz

Nema veze, i mi ovde svi stalno pricamo o tome. Uvek pratimo sva balkanska desavanja, a pogotovo sad.

Mene to isto zanima.

A bit će šta bude.

I heard about this. very sad indeed. My thoughts go out to the survivors. I have a theory about natural disasters though. I believe that people might think natures needs our help to survive, but Gaia is much older than even our ancestors, she can look after herself. Every time a population morally gets out of hand, a natural disaster happens there. I see it as a cleansing. All though it is very sad that some innocent people get hurt and die in the process. And I do not in any way take pleasure out of these things. Take the Japan tsunami for example... and the Japanese were overpopulated and killing dolphins (all though they are still doing the latter). Makes sense to me, lol, just thought I would share it... no particular reason for sharing it...

Just please don't share your theory with people from either of these 3 countries, and especially don't use word "cleansing",  you might be talking to people who have lost their loved ones in ethnic cleansing so one would think this part of the world had had enough of "cleansing" of any kind. And btw, my country only has about 4.3 million people and we don't kill dolphins as far as I know.

You didn't really offend me, it's just that it seemed very insensitive to the victims of floods we've been seeing and feeling for on TV 24/7 for the past week, many of which lost their homes and everything once before, in the war, despite knowing you didn't mean anything bad. It's all floods, floods, floods here and that's why I commented when I accidentally saw you comment, for a moment I imagined myself in those people's situation and how would they react in this moment if they read something like that. It's all good, have a wonderful evening too! :)

No, I won't laugh... I simply feel for everyone who has to go through something like this. It's never about dirty greedy Politicians, but hardworking people whose homes, along with their only forms of livelihood, are destroyed. It will be long until they've recovered from this - financially, physically and mentally.

Yes I understand that. That's why I said it's really sad about the people who looses a lot. It's unfortunate that the people who least deserve it get's the worst end of things. I think I have my theory because it really shakes my core to see such depression and sadness. Same with pictures of animal cruelty.... It's really just to sad for me to see, I need to justify me not having to feel for it or look at it in some way. I feel like I want to help them every time I see this kind of thing, but I know I don't have the means... except for internet awareness and I'm pretty sure those people don't care about the internet now... I don't know, I might be wrong in my ways, but I'v no idea how to handle it differently. Still learning

We all deal with stuff differently - there is nothing wrong with that, at all!
But yes, it always seems to be like that - it's the ones who least deserve it...
However, the solidarity that's been on display since the start of the flooding, is just amazing. So in this whole mess, at least that's the one thing to smile about. I'm sure they know they're not left alone.
