Deer poses study by Nimphradora Deer poses study by Nimphradora
I've started small drawing tutorial for better understanding of animal anatomy. These are personal studies I'm doing for myself, but decided to share them so they could maybe help others too.

I'm starting with sketching whole poses, (I'll cover different animal types) and I'll progress to details like horns or eyes.

Here is stash upload of references I've used for these sketches sta.sh/01k6rn2qd7ez

Try to make these studies as I'm doing them and maybe we learn something together, it would be awesome if you link your work in comments section.

I've started with deer, next I'll do cow/bull poses, they are exceptionally useful when drawing dragons because they are bulky with shorter legs and they work great as reference.

*** I had to say it... some of these drawings are really bad X)

The only deer I've ever drawn was of a mule deer fawn back in 1997.  She was an orphan, and I was raising her to return to the wild.  (Successfully, too!)  One day, during the first week or so of having her, I found her asleep on my living room futon in this adorable pose with a back hoof on top of her head.  Had to draw it! (I did change the background to look more like a natural setting, though.)

Here is a link to the pic, if you're interested:

I love your study!  Yes, some are not perfect, but that is the purpose of a study, isn't it? ;)  Try different poses, and see where it works, and more importantly, where it doesn't, so you know what to concentrate on and play with to get it right.  Well done!  :w00t:
