Valentina Barić & Ze Hai Liu
Artist | Professional | Digital Art
Hi everyone, this is Valentina and Ze, we've been living and making art together for more than a year now, and since we work so closely on commissions, often collaborating and passing back-and-forth pieces, we thought it only makes sense to have a joint account. This way anyone who wants to commission or collaborate with us knows more clearly who we are and what we do. We'll be putting folders for our individual works, and put our names in the description of pieces so you know who made what here.

Here's a little snippet about each of us, in case you're new here or simply need a refresher:

I started drawing when I was a kid, and was very inspired by fairytales, and that's where my affinity for mythical creatures and dragons comes from. Nowadays I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi novels, and listen to podcasts about mysteries and legends while I draw. My goal is to make art that inspires people, and give them a sense of wonder.

I went to art highschool, but was self taught while going to (non-art) college. Eventually I dropped out of college to pursue a freelance illustration career.

I love growing plants, my balcony is full of them, and I have two cats, whom I'm constantly trying to keep from ravaging my poor plants.

I'm shy and get nervous with the prospect of talking to people, most of the time I stay home and play games instead of going out and partying.

I doodled in class simply because classes were boring, the idea of making a living from art never even occurred to me until I finished highschool and found myself at a complete loss about what to do as a career.

I took a few leaps of faith, going into debt to go to school for different game art courses, and ended up working in various places, big game companies, animation schools, small film studios, eventually ending up here in Zagreb as a freelancer.

Now-adays I just want to draw enough to pay the bills, and spend the rest of my time relaxing, meditating, reading, gaming and enjoying the beauty and charm of Croatia.
Update Oct 14:
Episode two is online!

This one is all about the basics of light and form, how to get something to look solid and well lit.
Featuring art from Aartistix-works

We're having a lot of submissions to go over, and these episodes alone will never get through them all, so we're thinking of maybe starting the livestream again on every other sunday, to alternate with these recorded episodes, where it's more free-form, and we take a few pieces at once and paint over them while chatting with people who show up, it'll be more like an artsy-hang out than a lesson, more cozy and relaxed, perfect for a Sunday afternoon.
Would you guys be up for that? If you are, please comment and let us know!

Update Sept 30:
Episode 1

Original Post:
Hi everyone!

We wanna be more interactive with our fans and give them something back for their love and support, so we're doing paint-over / critique videos.
If you are interested in this send us a note with the painting you want us to go over and include a few words about what you wanted to achieve with the work just for us to know in what direction we should go.

We're still experimenting with what kind of videos to do is best, but in the beginning we're going to use the submitted piece in each episode to demonstrate a fundamental art principle in a easy to understand way, so that once you learned it you can apply it to every piece you do!
And these principles will be able to help anyone, not just the person whose art is being reviewed!

We hope this will be helpful to many people, feel free to ask if you have any questions or suggestions! :)

Hi y'all, we're starting to livestream on twitch and picarto. We're going to figure out exactly what kind of content to include so that it's helpful to as many of you as possible.

For now we have these ideas:
1. show and tell, we'll take some of our best or most recent work and discuss or demonstrate some techniques we used to achieve some of the best aspects of it
2. inspiration, we'll find some really interesting and inspiring works of art, or facts related to them and show them to people who might not know about it
3. reviews, we'll take art people sent us and show how we would go about improving them
4. sketching games, we'll do some sketching games that help with getting creative, and having fun with art
5. professional tips, we'll share some anecdotes that happened during our art career and offer some advice on how to deal with common issues like contacting clients, negotiating rates, getting paid, and things like that.

If you have some ideas about what you'd like to see we'd also be really interested in hearing them, so go ahead and comment or note us directly with your suggestions!

Also just in case you're not following us on our other social media accounts, here they are.
