White O'Morn cottage from the film THE QUIET MAN by John Ford (1952) with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.
(One of my favorite movies, by the way...)
This cottage is divided into two pieces:
- The main building (painted in white) that houses the living room / kitchen / dining room and the bedroom.
- A smaller annex building (in unpainted stone) that seems to be used as a shed or barn.
In the film you can clearly see how the bedroom set was expanded "invading" part of this second annex building..
With this project I intend to represent these imaginary sets as real houses.
So I imagined Shean Thornton and Mary Kate Danaher living happily in this cottage and with a couple of children.
(In fact you can see the cradle in front of the fireplace)
From here come my only two additions:
- I imagined that they added a small toilet in the back area of the shed and next to it I put a old water bomb with a sink.
- Since the roof of the interior is flat with beams but in the outside view of the main cottage a small window is visible in the upper part it was logical to think that in that upper part there was a small attic area. The perfect place for the children's bedroom for which I have drawn a staircase in that blind area (we never see it since it's the "fourth wall" where the cameras were placed) of the cottage.
This is a hand drawn layout, made in scale, coloured with colour pencils and with full details of furniture, fabric, timbers and complements... The design is made according with the "real" apartment respecting the spaces, proportions, furniture and objets presents in the studio set..If you are interested in a handmade original (not a print), you can visit my store in ETSY:www.etsy.com/es/shop/TVFLOORPL…
