This will be put up for prints soon, after I finish cleaning it up and fixing various things pointed out to me and ..that have bothered me over time.

Oh. my. god. I'M FINALLY DONE WITH THIS.. but none too happy with it. Good lord, I've spent so long on this. I would've spent even more time (namely on teh background...), but I'm submitting this really close to the deadline. It's for *svarta-perlan's contest, and the prizes are really nice. I kind of doubt I'll win, looking at some of the entries.. but.. Ugh, I gave it my best. I only discovered this contest like a week ago, and have been working on it almost the entire time since. (So many hours a day.. and I was such a slacker for not doing anything yesterday..)

This is *svarta-perlan's character Dema, as a goddess of beauty (that was the original idea, at least. She's definitely pretty enough.)

I cheated a little bit on the background, overlayed some textures (mainly on the trees and a little of the water). The statue was like a whole picture of it's own.. it's of my character Aycis becacuse I think she makes a good statue. The little ruffles on Dema's dress were HELL. Not the big folds.. but the little tiny creame colored things. I wanted to kill something so bad working on those. Oy..

Details can be seen here: [link] (Sorry for the clevage shot, I wanted to show the ruffles and necklace. XP)
The original, 100% zoomed is 2000x3000something pixels. D:

Original sketch on paper with pencil, colors and HOURS OF SLAVING done in Photoshop 7.0 with my wacom graphire 2 tablet (4x5inches). Not really sure about the time.. Definitely over 20 hours, though... I stopped counting shortly after I started.

Absolutely a delicious job you've done with this. The folds and shadding in the dress alone are incredible.

Gosh Nikker, this be gorgeous! Totally adore the dress, and the detailed shading you've put into the folds is awsome :o Her anatomy is perfect to say the least, great ethereal glow from the moonlight, though my favourite part has to be those cute little cream ruffles xD Hmm, I'd have liked to see more detail in her hair perhaps, but there's certainly nothing wrong with it *shrugs* but what do I know ^^; Water looks great too, always have a hard time getting the colours to look realistic myself.
Oh, and what method did you use to seperate her from the background, the line is very neat, was she just on a top layer?
Awsome work Nikkerz, spiffing pic indeed! Hope ya win/won. Hehe.

Haha, trust me, I tried putting more detial into her hair. It looked so ugly, and I didn't have enough time to worry about it.

And yeah.. she's on a layer above it, there were a lot of layers in this. Also, the fullsize was about four times as big as this probably? Yeah..

I really hope I win.. I think I'm ahead in votes, but I'm not sure.. I haven't checked in a while kind of. Voting lasts a month altogether.. Around August 17th or something it'll be over.

Fair enough, yeah, I assumed there'd be a good reason for you doing the hair in that way, the highlighting was still very accurate to.
Gosh, I thought the fullsize one was big! Eeep. Suppose it's easier to work big to begin with.
Hm, I'll see if I can find the link again, then I can vote as well ^_~ Ya certainly deserve it I can say!

I would have died a horrible, flaming death before I could do anything even in the same country as the skill in this. You must have the patience of a saint and extremely dependable hands. Congratulations, you deserve it!

gorgeous work! as far as critique goes, you really nailed the water in the fountain. like seriously rockin'! the details in the dress are exquisite and the trees are very well done.

as far as constructive criticism, try shading things with different colors, not just darker base colors or gray. for example, the white fur on the dog girl, you could add some other highlights of green and blue to reflect the background! if you do it subtely it can really make things stand out and look more "real."

other than that though, fantastic work!

p.s: i'm confused. are you the same girl that did the breakdancing animation? that's how i found your account. :>

Nah, =veg is the one who did that. She's a good friend of mine, and I favorited it.

And, as far as the critique goes <3 Thank you. There's a lot of unfinished things with this picture, heck there was even a bunch of jewlery I didn't have time ot add (and I was lucky to rememer she had any tail). That's what happens when I have a short amount of time to finish something, though.

no problem! and, if that is a rushed job, i'd love to see what you can come up with more time! keep up the great work. :D
