Janus

Mainly I wanted to try some new background techniques. I used masking tape and different blue color washes to get the desired effect.
I also wanted to force myself to use another color combination than my favorite yellow/red/black one I used so many times in my recent pieces.

As for the title: Janus is a Roman god that is identified with doors, gates, and all beginnings and that is depicted with two opposite faces.

The original size is 10"x20" on canvas board.
Materials used: acrylics, paper, twine

As always please full view for details, although lots of texture got lost in the small version.

The original is available in my etsy store : [link]

I really like this. the soft washes of blue, the bits of text behind it.

except for the twine. not a fan. too much of a conflicting style, I feel it detracts from the intricacy of the background.

-Do you believe in God?
-No, i don't, but when I bleed to death I'll call his name to wait me outside.

Enchanting work! "January" also comes from the name of this Roman god - as being the gate of the year. By the way January is my third name, which makes this work even more precious to me ;P :D
