Right, so now I've finished with all that edumacation business there's the small matter of making a living to attend to full time. Earlier on today I was doing caricatures at a community festival in Southgate which was great fun. My 'stall' (table) was the most popular thing going on there for some time and the reactions were great. Because I was there under the auspices of the event organisers I was obliged to give the drawings away so I have nothing to show you all, unfortunately. On the other hand it was great practice - a bit like being paid fairly nicely to do a super-intensive life drawing class! I'd be happy if I could pay my way in li

Hey man, I went to a UCAS fair yesterday and a tutor on the Middlesex Uni stall told me about you. Looked you up and your work is awesome and exactly the sort of thing I'd love to do. Would you recommend the illustration course? :)
Hi, sorry for not getting back to you, haven't been round here in ages.

That's really nice - was it Nancy? :)

In terms of which illustration course to choose, I couldn't say if the one I choose was better or worse than any other because I only did one! Yeah, I’d say it was good.

I liked my tutors although I was quite argumentative and frequently disagreed with them. I think it was a healthy relationship. :)

In hindsight, I realise that they're not there to be teachers so much as surrogate clients. The most important thing you can learn from them is how to be a professional. Demand these skills from your tutors – the sooner you pick them up the better equipped you’ll be when you leave. It certainly took a while to sink for me after leaving Uni, but I’ve been fortunate since then.

Don't expect your tutors to teach you how to be an illustrator though (or even a draughtswoman) . You'll have to work your butt of to figure that one out for yourself. There are teachers and mentors out there, but I'd be surprised if you found one at Uni.

Good luck :)
Ah thankyou so much, that's very good advice, I will definitely take what you've said into account, and yeah it was Nancy :) I've chosen to go to a different Uni now but you're advice will be invaluable anyway :)

Thankyou,
Charlie.
Er - draughtsman, I mean. Sorry mate, I read the sig from the post bellow ;)
