If i could draw like that...
what would happen?
you can, just look at my first submissions then until just a few months ago. Practice, get critique (take it with a measure of grace, biting back the "f**k you" initial response to the criticism [that is entirely normal to feel] XD),then practice more. 
if you get good critique on whats wrong with your pieces, you have something to work on for the next, and you build from it (as long as the critic doesn't just hose you cos they're a douche)

I agree with that, but its getting critiques thats the hardest as most people look and then move on, and yes practice it the key, i have been drawing digital for about four months, and what i have taken from it is that no matter what you ask, it is down to our selfs to become as good as we can, with friendly advice along the way, and taking the bad with the good.
I think we all wish we could draw like others, well i do..haha, defiantly with your art work, but i know its time and effort and some long nights, which will hopefully get me there,
any-ways, you've given some good advice and this design is amazing, the face is mental, and his horns and shell/armour work really well.

if i get a chance between other stuff XD the design of the dwarfs in the movie where very well done, but i'm not sure whether to go off of my imaginaton with stuff like that or go for referencing the film

Wow, all those little details really brought this piece to life from your WIP. Freaking amazing! I am fascinated looking at every part of this creature. That shell looks awesome, too. Damn. You're amazing. 
not amazing lol, just ocd on trying to improve XD thank you glad you like it, been really studying Dave Rapoza's portraits and trying to implement his use of focal points and defined edges and soft edges...its starting to make sense to me, and this was the result lol
