Courthouse cannon by NickACJones Courthouse cannon by NickACJones
Towson, Maryland generally doesn't have a whole lot going for it in terms of unique attractions, but the area around its courthouse does have a few interesting antiques, statues, and monuments kicking around. This cannon, captured at Manila in 1898 (I have no idea why a cannon was captured in the Philippines the year before the Philippine-American War) and donated by the U.S. government to Towson a few years later, is one such feature.

We captured it from the Spanish, who owned the Philippines in 1898.    There's others at Annapolis.

Was the Spanish–American War in 1898? Thought it was a touch earlier than that for some reason. That certainly explains it, then.
