StH: Armand D'Coolette by NicGiraffe StH: Armand D'Coolette by NicGiraffe
I'm less then impressed with the good general's design in the comic, so I came up with my own. Armand is pretty young here, somewhere in his twenties, and not a general yet. Since he's a pureblooded coyote in my story continuity, I gave him a long tail and more coyote-ish markings (and his eyes are supposed to be gold).

I was trying to avoid making him look like Antoine's exact double, but I don't think I really succeeded in that department. >_> I'm particularly fond of the sketch on the right though. That's an apple he's supposed to be holding, though it's hard to tell.

For the time when he was living in Mercian and at private-corporal ranks, you should draw a French-Foreign Legion style uniform or a with a French "Adrian" style helmet.

FFL-like uniform would be good too if there are some of his Mercian units following him to Acorn to continue follow their superior in Great War.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have given some thought to throwing in some FFL influences into Armand's military background (which I'm still trying to work on for my headcanon). I might do some more sketches of him, but that'll honestly depend on my level of inspiration. :P

He looks great! You gave him such a nicer design than what the comics gave him, that's for sure. I've always thought that Armand had deserved a better story than he ended up getting, in fact I think it would've been cool to possibly have a few issues in the StH universe based off the past. Then we could've learned more about the previous generation of characters as well.

I hear ya there. I was really disappointed to hear that Armand had been killed off after everything he'd been through. I guess that's where fans like us come in; to finish and flesh out the characters' stories. Writing a story focusing on Armand (as well as his wife and Twan's mom per my story-verse) is definitely on my to-do list.

And thank you for the compliment on this piece! XD

You're welcome! Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you; I went to sleep at 12:00(Gerorgia time lol). Yeah, it was very depressing when Armand got killed off, in fact even just reading the ending to issue 168 where it happened nearly set tears to my eyes! I dread the day when I will have to lose someone close like the way Twan lost his dad.I am definitely interested to hear your story focusing on Antoine's parents when it is done! In fact, I've had my own stories of them as well, I just haven't written those down yet; they've all been in my head. Of course, those stories relate to my own universe as well, because Kage Von Stryker and other fan characters I have are involved eventually.

It's perfectly fine, don't worry about it. :D Yeah, the death of a parent is definitely hard. If you think about it, Twan already lost his dad once to the roboticizer. I'd love to see what you do with Twan's prents! More often then not, people depict Armand as being physically/or verbally abusive towards Antoine, which I do *not* agree with at all, but I have a feeling you'll treat Armand with more respect.

Good point! I do great Twan's parents with much more respect than what most people do. It's very obvious that Armand was not abusive, because Antoine cried over Armand's death. Antoine loved his father and wanted to please him, so I really don't get why people make him out to be an abusive monster. I've already got a bit of a backstory going: something like how Armand was indeed a general in the military, and how (in my universe, Patch was Armand and his wife's firstborn, though Patch was mysteriously "lost" a couple months later...) Antoine was the second pup, though he never knew until late teens. Of course, both parents fell in the Dark Regime, but they were well loved, and they do make later appearances. Oh well, that's just the basis of it, and it's not completely though out. But yeah, it's pretty annoying how people think he was abusive...

Exactly! Plus, Antoine wears his father's uniform in honor of the man (um, coyote). I don't know many abuse victims who'd try to emulate their abuser like that. Oh, so Patch is the older brother then. Interesting. What you have for the 'rents' so far sounds good. :) I dunno, I guess people wanna throw some drama into their stories or something, but still, the abuse thing just makes no sense.

I totally agree! I mean, it was made very clear more than once that Antoine loved his father. So, abuse? Nah, I don't buy that stuff. Also, when I get to writing this one story about Patch's past, I know that many people that would read it would affiliate Bodo (lol he was actually in StH 58/59 or something like that, but nobody seemed to ever question about him, so I gave him some time to shine in my stories) with evil and abusive, but that's not true at all. His intentions were good natured, but were misguided as well. Ah well, anyways, yeah the abuse doesn't make sense at all.

Who's Bodo? I'm afraid that's the one minor Sonic character I don't know anything about. :P

Good sketches, I really like the look of them.

One thing though, in the left image, how he's grabbing his sword, isn't that the wrong way to grab it?(Unless he fight holding it backwards of course... You never know with anime culture these days)

Thanks. Yeah... looking at that left sketch again, I see what you mean. I Googled some pictures of people drawing swords, and the way Armand's going for his does look odd. I'll use a reference next time instead of trying to rely on my swiss cheese memory.

I'm so lost when the comic is concerned. Stopped reading it ages ago due to the store from where I purchased them stop carrying them. :crying:

The design on the right is yours? They're both wonderful, but just making sure I have it right. Then I will shower you with praises. :giggle:

*pats Kabocha's shoulder* I'm in the same boat as you. I try to keep up via the Sonic comic wiki or Dan Drazen's reviews, though to be honest I haven't been reading them lately because I really haven't been interested in the comic. If you're curious, there are a couple of pictures of (comic) Armand here: [link]

Thanks. Actually, both designs are mine, lol.

Oh! *looks at pic in the link you gave me* Eeeeh...:hmm: Yeah, yours are loads better. That one looks like Antoine with a mustache, and then with no hair and a beard. How original.
I know you pointed out not wanting him to look like Antoine's twin and I think you achieved your goal. Your version, like Antoine, is very handsome but only similar in appearance. Judging by his body language and facial features, he's probably where Ant got most of his personality traits.

*nods* When I saw the scans in which he’s bald, my face did this: :| I don't think they try too hard with the Freedom Fighters' parent's designs. *laughs*

Really? Thanks. XD I do want there to be a definite similarity between the both of them, but not to where they're just copies of each other. Hmm... I might have to tweak Belle's design, since she doesn't look much like Antoine (though she did give him a couple of her physical traits).

I thought Belle was beautiful the way she was. Though, I'd love to see a re-edited version if you think she needs a makeover. :giggle:

Whatever you decide will be just wonderful!

Ooo! OO! :excited: You should draw a wedding picture of Armand and Belle! That would be beautiful and I know you have the talent to pull it off.

Wow... well done! :pat:

Personally, I've always imagined Armand to look like Antoine as far as body build and features are concerned, but he would have a more coyote-like color scheme rather than having ice-blue eyes and dirty-blonde hair like Ant (which reminds me of a husky; so I just imagine Ant's mommy to be a husky-coyote hybrid).

Yeah, I think I've seen enough of your work to actually start following you. Me likies! :giggle:

Aw shucks. :blushes: Thank you very much for the watch and the comment, I feel quite honored!

Ant part husky? I like it, I can see that (aren't huskies rather high-strung? That'd explain a lot about his personality *grin*). I've always like to think that he isn't 100% coyote and has some domestic dog in his genes. Just curious, but how do you explain his bobtail?
