Beachy keen lovebirds by NicGiraffe Beachy keen lovebirds by NicGiraffe
Chose to briefly halt my self-imposed hiatus to upload this. September just started, so I wanted to close out the summer with something seasonal before autumn begins. My (redesigned) interpretation of Antoine's parents, Armand and Belle, pre-Antoine days. Haven't drawn these two in forever!

They look fantastic! :D I really love your interpretation of his parents, and they look like they've having a great time at the beach.  XD well, except for when Armand makes that little friend hanging off his tail.  As always, your lineart and poses are fantastic.  I am forever jealous of your skills, and I love looking at your artwork.  It's so clean and beautiful! :)  I also love the way you did the water.  That is so hard to do, but I think you did an excellent job.   I'M SORRY I'VE BEEN SO SLOW I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO DO HERE AND ON ISV

Aww, thank you for the kind words! :) It was fun to draw them. I'm glad the water came out well, because it was sort of tricky to do and then I got worried it looked like crap.

It's fine, I have a bunch of stuff I need to reply to  on here and elsewhere myself!

No problemo, you've always been such a good artist.  I need to study you and your poses so I can actually draw with poses eventually. XD  Oh man I imagine, water is just such a weird thing in drawing, I can see it being a nightmare (but is it as bad as Elsa's evil lips?!).  You did a really awesome job though, because it looks natural.  It doesn't look like crap at all.

HOW DO THINGS PILE ON SO QUICKLY.

:-D What I do these days and what's been really helpful is use Google Images to look for pose ideas and referencing hands and such. Like for the on sketch of Armand and Belle laying side by side on the beach, I just used the search terms "couple at the beach'. Be careful though, because sometimes you get some crazy results back (porn, gross injuries, and once, a real-life beheading gif or video for some inexplicable reason). Hmm... no, the evil lips were worse. I don't know how many times I redrew those things. @_@ Thanks, that's really a relief to hear.

I DON'T KNOW IT'S CRAZY.

Yeah, I've been looking up various things on google too and then printing them out, and using a lightpad I have to trace the poses so I can look at the poses when I attempt to draw my characters.  I just downloaded a bunch of hand reference pictures from DA with real people's hands, but I have to go back through so I can remember where I got what from and properly credit. XD   Oh man I can imagine you get some really weird stuff in that search.   Sigh google, you're so cheap sometimes.  DX and what the hell on that beheading gif?!!!  Ugh, yeah we must always remind ourselves why it's best to be safe on google.
Damn your lips elsa, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE!  And no problem, you're a fantastic artist. :D

THIS WORLD IS CRAZY.

That's awesome. I know that lightpad's handy. Yeah, hand still give me grief too. I can't even remember what the search terms were that pulled up the beheading gif. It was weird as well as disturbing. It's my fault though for removing the safety parameters, since I'll look at pictures of nude models and such sometimes to help with anatomy, and I can't see them with the safety on.

Say, has Google Images been working for you lately? Because whenever I get on my phone, it won't let me click on the link to enlarge the image. I've been forced to use Bing.

It really is! I just wish it was set up so that animation would be an easier thing.  It's super thin and doesn't have anything to hold multiple pictures (over like 3 or 4), and  I wish it did so I could try some really simple animation.
That is so weird.  Just like some random ass shock value from..somewhere! That's ugh.  Yeah, it sucks that you get this kind of crap without the safety parameters, but sometimes it overprotects your searches too.  I wish there was more control over this hahah.
Yeah, those kind of things are really helpful!  But then you know there are also other things.  Like here on DA, with people showing off and claiming it as ARTISTIC NUDITY.
sure it is kids, sure.

It was working for me yesterday, but I had problems with it like thetwo days before.  That's so weird. I've had enlarging issues on the phone too, though trying to make a wallpaper.

Yeah, there is no middle ground it seems. Yeah, I wish Google would invent a way for you to be able to better control what you see, but until then, I just grit my teeth and hope I don't see anything horrifying whenever I use Google Images.

That's true. Ugh... kids, lol.

How's it working for you now? It started working again for me about a week ago. Maybe it just depends on your phone?

Very good sketch you drew here Nic. You really have a good grasp on both of these characters make me wish if I had the time and patience to write a before the coup d'etat of Robotnick. Fanfic about the parents and others you know right around the end of the great war then lead up to the takeover of Robotnick. Kind of like that Fox show Gotham that is a prequel about the rise of batman. Anyway keep up the awesome work

Peace

Thanks! Yeah, the period prior to the coup doesn't get touched on too often in fanfics, if at all. Which is a shame -- there's a lot of great storytelling potential there. I do plan on writing a story about Armand and Belle that delves into their respective backstories and how they met.

If you ever do get any free time and want to start writing, let me know. I'd be happy to lend a hand somehow.

Thanks! Just for comparison, here's what Armand looks like in the comic: archiesonic.wikia.com/wiki/Arm…

Aww....that's so cute! I'm digging the lovebirds and their fun at the beach! I agree with saying that it's a wonderful way to bid farewell to summer. I really love their interactions--they really are in love with each other. And Armand's expression with the crab clinging to his tail is hilarious. XD

Thank you! I definitely want portray them as being a happy couple, since you didn't (don't?) see much of them in the comics and fandom, and what little we do see doesn't look especially positive or cheerful.

Crabs ruin everything.

Well they certainly could use more cheerful images of them and I think you succeeded.

Yes, they do...even though they are adorable little guys. XD

And it's nice seeing Armand not looking like he just had his 1000th birthday.

:D Glad you like them so much! There needs to be more art of Twan's folks.

Stormblaze: "That's your father? Really? Are you sure he isn't your grandfather?"

Antoine: :[

Armand: 'What? Did that rhino say he had a granddaughter? Speak up!"

LMAO! The only sad thing about making him look the right age is we can't have that conversation happen. XD Well, I guess we could in parodies!

Awww, they're both so cute! :D Love the mustache and the crab pinching his tail, though I'm a little confused by her having two different sets of hair: straight or curly. ^^

Thank you! I thought giving him a more elegant-looking mustache would lend him this sort of classic movie star flair, like Errol Flynn or someone like that: www.silverscreensuppers.com/wp…

As for the different hair textures, I wasn't sure if I should give her curly or straight hair, so I was trying to see which looked better. I've seen poodles drawn with one or the other, but thinking about it now, I'm inclined to go with curls since it looks more naturally poodle-like.

Welcome! Hm, yeah, I guess I can see a kind've Errol Flynn type of thing going on. Although I'm also reminded of those stereotypical villains from silent films who tie the helpless damsel to the train tracks. ;) :XD:

I personally think the straight hair is prettier, but if she's a poodle then go with the curly hair. I'm not too familiar with poodle breeds, but I always associate them with curly fur. Maybe you can give the straight hairstyle to another dog-girl? ;)

I definitely wanna steer clear of making him look villainous. Archie comics already tried doing that to him (albeit subtly).

That's not a bad idea. I just need to find another girl dog, lol.

You might be able to pull off giving him a mustache, maybe if it were styled differently... maybe make it go down instead of up? Or maybe give it a 'fluffier' look? Of course, you might not have to change it at all, since I'm the only one so far who's been reminded of a villain. ;)

Hah, yeah. Thanks. xD

I'll probably try those mustache designs out on him and see how they turn out. Who knows, maybe by experimenting I can come up with something really awesome. XD

Anytime!
