Yet my feet don't touch the ground.
See the world spinning upside down,
A mighty crash without a sound!
(Now I have the random urge to play Sonic Heroes for some reason...)
Not that the new designs by themselves are bad (they're decent, at least), but what SEGA has done to them now is make them look like a typical "band of heroes." There's the main hero (Sonic), the techie (Tails), the muscle (Knuckles), and the tough girl (Amy). Don't get me wrong. They were always these types of characters, but it wasn't so obvious as SEGA has made it now. Before, they just looked like simple humanoid animals, and you had to really get into the franchise in order to understand each character's uniqueness.
Now, don't get the wrong idea from me. I know it's not like saying any of this would change anything. I'm merely stating my opinion, and I did say that the designs aren't bad.
I won't lie. That took a moment to sink in. XD
But I get what you're saying. It IS typical of US companies designing characters that way. When it comes to these sorts of games, Japan has always headed towards "cute", colorful and fun. Personally, I just hope these designs become the official or permanent designs. I'm not the kind to cling onto the past and say "oh, it's not like the original!" But c'mon, these designs are okay but they don't remind me of Sonic. In fact, these designs are more like caricatures.
There is no god... >.>
