XII.VII.MMXX

1938-1943

I allowed all within

To flow freely

For a short time

And I wonder.

Questions fly

To and fro

As the muzzle

Is reinstituted.

Do we fear to think

Because our thoughts

Will ungraciously

Uncover who we are?

We all hide something,

We all act in a way

No matter how

Genuine we are.

We treat our parents one way,

We talk with friends this way,

We chat with coworkers another way,

And we whisper with lovers that way.

Now this is not a slight,

I am who I am

And I know that,

But I am different from me.

For different situations

Require different I’s

For different thoughts,

For different crowds.

Thus I am an amalgamation

Of me, myself, and I.

Not one is disingenuous

To all these individuals.

There are multiple I

Within the singular Me

And that is what makes up

Myself.

Poem 107 post mission.
