Woah! Not only is this an amazing photograph, but you're pretty brave or going there! Being in a place where a person was hanged would give me the chills!!!

The dismal landscape, the hanging rope, suggest a gallows. But maybe was it to draw water=)

I looked at this stark overcast scene in this abandoned place & wondered what a "gibbet" was..we don't have many here is the USA. My first thought was ahhh!!, it looks like a hanging post, but I never suspected that I would be right. Perhaps I should have read your note first? :o You certainly captured the essence of the place in your photo :) Clap  I think I'll listen to Led Zeppelin now, "Hanging from the Gallows Pole", that should cheer me right up! :D

At the beginning, before reading the description, I felt the atmosphere of Emily Brontë's "Wuthering Heights". On one hand here wide opened empty space, for wind, cold... Probably for soul should be. But on the other hand it still closed, because you can't feel the freedom (in sense of freedom to leave the place) - low sky, hidden by dense clouds, barbed wire fence...
It is really great deep photograph, like book illustration, right weather for telling such story. Punishment for the murder. Gallows-looking post and grass looks like burning. Seem that all such places through the centuries keep the spirit of old events ;) (Wink)

It is very bleak and barren so is perfect for 'Wuthering Heights' Very beautiful lace to go though especially in the winter time ;)
