This image reminds me of the final scene in the 1985 New Zealand film The Quiet Earth, where the protagonist starts hallucinating Saturn rising in the sky in place of the sun.

the dark part of the planet shouldn't be transparent as to allow another planet and the sky to be seen o_O
nethskie's avatar
what do you mean transparent? the Planet is not transparent also those clouds are not Nebula they are Noctilucent Clouds and they are blocking the view of the Planet just like how the Moon is being blocked by clouds here on Earth. take a look at this pic [link] this is the closest real life illustration i can set as an example. imagine those clouds covering the moon. i hope this solves the confusion :)

hmm, if the clouds are blocking the planet, then wouldn't the rings be blocked by the clouds too? :) Then according to you, the planet would be at the back, the clouds at the front of it (blocking the left part of the planets as seen) and the rings in front of the clouds!

Also, what is that small circular/semi circular thing on the dark side of the large planet?
nethskie's avatar
when you check carefully the clouds are blocking the rings too it's just that the red clouds and some blue clouds are faint and the ring is brighter so it creates an illusion because the far object is brighter than the near object. for example a bright star is 1000 light years away while a dim star is only a 100 light years away the bright star will look nearer because it is brighter it creates an illusion. :)

The circular thing on the dark side of the planet is a lens flare effect :)

thanks for pointing those out i appreciate that i can explain some things about the image :D

lens flare. oooh  I totally forgot that photoshop has that xD i guess you could mask that part to make it more presentable  and the rings in the foreground in low opacity =P Also, the cityscape looks in a very high contrast :paranoid:
overall i like the blue hues in it *says a blue addict*

My pleasure. Sometimes I like to get to have this type conversations :D
