Influence Map by Nesskain Influence Map by Nesskain
well... these past few months I was wondering to myself what I kind of drawing style I want, I find myself having a classic style with no "identity".
Then I tried to look for something more specifics that will make me more "special".
And I remembered about that influence map stuff on deviantart. I decided give a try on it... And I realize that whatever the style I want I will always be influence by these artists as they are my native influence.

Today I'm influenced by so many artist with differents styles that I'm lost, but by doing this influence map I realised whatever the number of artists that influence me now, those on the map will always be unconsciously part of my style.

And what do I see? I see that they all got "classic" style. So I tried to see what I like about those artist. I found out that is not so much the drawing that touch me. But the stories ! Yeah this is what's all about.

So from now, I won't try to look for something special, I know that my drawing will never be specific. I'll try to make good stories instead :).

I think my drawing will improved by itself as long as I want to progress. From now I will focus on stories... I lost enough time trying to get something I'll never have.

And for those who think that I don't have a manga style... you don't read enough manga! ^^

P.S: sorry for my english :).

Great idea to organize all the real influence. Started my own yesterday and I try to make it real and neat-looking.

I would say that you do have an identifiable style, but I agree that stories are the most important thing I look for in drawings that I see and artists that I like. It's how the art makes me feel and what it makes me think of, whether it inspires me.
I don't recognize all of these, but I see Hikaru No Go, one my cats is named after Hikaru ^^ and a few others, like Ghibli, of course.

yeah, i do understand you, for example hxh have a great influence in me but not because of the drawings, those are pretty much just supporting the concept and story, great map, i love it all ^^

Awesome influence map! Was glad to see Naru Taru in the mix-- Kitoh Mohiro's got a very unique style.
I agree with your point: a mangaka is a storyteller first and foremost. It's the story and the universe that the story is set in which are the most important. I've read too many mangas where the artwork is very pretty but the story is mediocre; such works are quickly forgotten. So if you come up with an awesome story first, that will most likely give you specific directions on how to adapt your drawing style to best tell that story. Best of luck with that!
