Liara Motivational Poster by NeroonCousland Liara Motivational Poster by NeroonCousland
Inspired by me and my wife having the same favourite ME1 character. Then having to find out about the Liara hatedom. So a little reminder whom all their wives and girlfriends are probably drooling over.

.....I have a fangirl crush on the Normandy and all its tech...... The opening for ME2 is going to KILL me..... Watching clips on You Tube already makes me sad inside..... Actually playing through it? *wince* Ouch.

On a seperate note: Liara is okay, though I'm probably never gonna pursue a romance for the first game. I'm kind of stuck on Tali and Garrus as romance options. Garrus because he cracks me up and I adore his personality.  Tali because she is just so cute. Not physical cute as there is the whole mask thing in the way. As far as build goes.....I'm pretty much asexual and find neither gender particularly attractive. Part of why I like these two so much. Physical appearance does nothing for me, so the only way to attract my attention is through personality. These two have interesting personalities. Liara, Ashley, and Kaiden? Kind of 'meh' personality wise. Other resons why I like Tali and Garrus: they are part of your team from the beginning, they are loyal (big thing with me. Loyalty matters more to me than anything else, really), they are magnificently snarky, and they are your best friends regardless of whether you pursue a romance or not. Love that.

On Twilight: I have never read the books, never watched more than 5 minutes of the movie (my ride was visiting with her friend who was a Twilight junkie and I COULD NOT GET AWAY....it was SO BAD......), and its just a bad story. Bland characters, dubious morals, weak plot........I can find better vampire stories on FictionPress. Also the things she does to the vampire mythos......as a fan of the traditional vampire story (and I am not picky about region. I particularly like stories about Chinese vampires. The jiang-xi are quite fascinating creatures) I find the concept of vampires 'sparkling in the sunlight' just plain insulting. Also there is the whole attempt to sanitize vampires.....the fact that at their core these creatures were always intended to be blood-sucking monsters kind of makes the whole thing rather stupid. I agree with my brother in that I suspect Ms. Meyers was attempting to cash in on the popularity of vampires in general. She seems to have succeeded and I can not for the life of me understand why..... Maybe it because I'm not its target age group, maybe I'm not its target intellectual range, or maybe the fact that I demand a certain level of quality in what I read is why I've mostly avoided the craze. Point is: Twilight can go die for all I care. And so can its writer. Seriously. A meteor needs to peg her in the head or something.

Now that's a long comment! I'm very flattered you took so much time. Going to reply in a note so as to not take up even more space in the comments section. Dito for your comment on the Miranda Motivational.

I might be a girl and Edward might be semi-attractive in my opinion but Liara without a doubt wins this round.

Where Edward goes all creepy and pathetic with his sparkling, Liara is sweet and bad ass at the same time, I think it is safe to say most would choose that over the other any day.

I'm a chick buuut... Liara. She could slap Edward with a warp or singularity, or throw him out in the ocean where (I am ashamed to admit I know this) he would drown due to weighing as much as a marble statue of a human would. Plus Liara is beautiful, badass, and so awkwardly adorable that I melt into a puddle of goo every time I romance her :giggle: Edward is a sparkly, emo fairy who stalks girls while they sleep, all while making excuses as to why he can't be with them regardless of his obvious wishes to the contrary :o

You don't have to be ashamed. My wife also read the first three books once. Otherwise how could she prefer Liara if she doesn't know him ;) ? And yes her social clumsiness left both her and me smitten.
I got to give Twilight credit for one thing though: It sure is fun pointing out to feminists, that when coming up with a new Vampire Franchise the Western world gave us Bella Swan, whereas supposedly much more patriarchical Japan gave us Integra Hellsing :D .

lol You do have a point there ^^ I only got through the first two books, at that point I had to throw in the towel on it tho. I adore Liara though, I think I love her as much as I love Garrus. A bit odd now I think about it I guess but anyway back on topic :giggle:
omg That is so freaking true :O_o: And Integra Hellsing is a properly awesome woman, as Alucard is a properly awesome vampire. Plus Twilight is basically telling girls that there isn't anything wrong with an abusive relationship so long as you love the guy IMO. I just now realized, I have more than a few issues with the Twilight series :XD:

Well you can adore them both. That's what multiple playthroughs are for ;) .
In my case I pretty had to rewrite my own canon after playing ME1 with the Mrs. She loved Liara so much I couldn't continue with my formerly canon MaleShepard anymore and started a new one who then romanced Miranda instead.

Integra is indeed!

haha This is true :meow: I have played these games through a good 5 or 6 times at least too. I usually try to remember to do something different once in a while, but the truth is sometimes you can't help having a favorite or two. Oddly enough, I don't think my husband really has a particular attachment to any of the characters. At least if he does I don't know about it and he's really good at keeping it to himself. haha Aww, yeah I'm not quite that attached to Liara :giggle:

I love the Hellsing series. I gotta see if I can find the whole set in a box or something...

I see. Well we all play different.

Good luck! I've looked for quite a few animes on BluRay to buy over the last years and every time I actually found them released as a box it was a US import version, that wouldn't run afoul of the european region code of my PS3. Well can't be helped if they don't want my money.

lol This is true ^^

Aww, yeah. Well there's that, and I normally hate the English dubs they have on most animes, I like to get them in Japanese with English subtitles. Although with Hellsing I'm actually looking for the mangas, there's something therapeutic in physically turning the pages for me for some reason. lol Know what you mean there :XD: I will never understand how they can have a business when they put codes like that in the game systems. It doesn't cause as much problem usually, but some of the electronic gadgets in the US react oddly to media from other countries too.

Neither.
Fred the Crap Vampire can eat shit and die for all I care. And I just do not like Liara; she's okay as a character I guess but the reason I hate her is because she's just the creator's pet and she essentially became the most important character in the entire series; showing up in all three games and being romanceable in all of them, appeared at least once in the novels, the comics, the movie, and even a figurine of her. I'm just sick of all the love Liara's getting all that media attention. :|

Though, I guess if I have to choose between the two, I'll go with my future wife having a fangirl crush on Liara...

Fair enough.

And FYI: The "target audiance" for this wasn't Liara's fans, it was actually directed as those who don't like her to show how things could be much worse ;) .

You never fail to make one laugh with those ;D
Even though I have to say that I actually disliked Liara in ME1 and 2 but that changed in the 3rd part.
In the first one, I thought she was too childish, in the second too imprudent but in the third I actually thought of romancing her for a second XD
Still, in any part of the game, she'd be a better fangirl crush than Edward Cullen XD

I see.
Unlike most people I never considered Liara too childish in ME1 although I see were you are coming from. Me however (and the Mrs for that matter) interpret her as someone who spent the last 5 decades in seclusion doing obscure research. Basically a history - nerdette with very limited contact to other people you could say. Very much someone we could relate to.

Yes, I understand that as well ^.^ If you see it like that, I really see what you like her for ;) Still, she somehow got on my nerves in the first game ;D
And yet, despite everything, I always liked having her around ;D

I'll be honest, I didn't like Liara in ME1, and in ME2 she was sorta that awkward side character for me, who sure, saved my ass from a frozen wasteland to bring me back to life, but I didn't get on with still. It might have been that eye. You know, the one that looks like it has a droopy eyelid.

BUT, in ME3 I warmed up to her. She came out as much more personable, and more driven. She made more effort to put herself forward. If you didn't romance her, like I didn't (first time Kaidan, second time Garrus) then you see that she has this really deep friendship, where she places all her trust in your ability to save a galaxy. She's loyal, defends you against criticism, helps as much as she can from the sidelines and even freezes your memory in time. And at the end, when the goodbyes come and she put her head on my shoulder, I finally felt sad, because Liara loved me in her own way that I didn't reciprocate, but as long as I was by her side, she seemed strong.

In the DLC, I'd like to see Liara continuing to be strong, something I think Shepard taught her along the way.

can not belive people hated liara. she had more interaction and better personality than any human in ME1. in me 2 i ould say same but miranda had a nice body even if i feel for tali.

i will admit i played ME2 first so i was majorlly in love with tali for ages but when i played me1 and saw liara i knew i had meet my digital wife. even my GF new that with liara she would have to settle for a 3some or GTFO
