[MiF] Ch.5 - The Resistance
Neo's eyes blinked, opening slowly. It took many long seconds for her senses to return to her. But when they finally did, she found herself lying on a wooden bed in a small room that was only lit up by a few candles. A particular, very dominant scent of herbs and smoke lingered in the air. Outside of her room, she was able to hear the busy mumbles of voices. Still feeling an intense fatigue, she let her gaze wander. Weakly, she looked around in the hope of making sense of her unfamiliar surroundings.
She tried to move up, but a stinging ache in her chest made her wince, quickly forcing her head to sink back into the soft pillow underneath her. Neo sighed. Each of her nervous breaths felt like it was accompanied by a faint burning sensation. She noticed that her chest had been neatly wrapped in linen bandages. A green herbal paste, made from the strong-smelling and disinfectant Bitterleaf, was delicately mixed in with the fabric. The plain garb Neo was wearing was not her own, and it
A stench of decay amidst a suffocating darkness greeted Neo as she slowly regained consciousness. Her head throbbed with pain. She tried to sit up, but her body felt too heavy and sick. Panic surged through her veins and confusion clouded her mind like a thick fog. The continuous ache within her head left Neo unable to string together any coherent thoughts as if she had been intoxicated. One of her trembling hands reached out to touch her face, the other feeling the cold, damp floor underneath her. What in the world had happened to her, she asked herself.
Slowly, but steadily, her eyes adjusted to darkness. Neo struggled with her senses slowly coming back to her, but she tried to take in her shadowy surroundings as best as her dazed mind allowed her. Moments later, she was certain she found herself in a small room, possibly underground. She was clearly imprisoned. The cell she was trapped in was confining, with cold stone walls and a hard, rough floor. She took notice of the sturdy
Many years had passed since the events of little Neo and her mysterious mask. The once curious child had now blossomed into a young woman of seventeen years old. The passage of time had not changed her spirit much, nor had it dimmed her love for the beauty of nature. Always having been under the gentle guidance of her mother and close relatives, Neo was lucky to have enjoyed a relatively ordinary and peaceful upbringing in her hometown Adarna. She had taken the same path as her mother, studying the countless plants of Magna to become a humble herbalist. The memories of her early adventures in the forests had grown distant, and the mask's ominous secrets remained safely tucked away, almost forgotten. Despite the occasional reoccurring thoughts and dreams, it seemed as though the simple joys of life together with her loved ones had become Neo's primary reality.
This late afternoon, the sun stood low over the vast mountains of the valley. Rays of light bathed the streets of Adarna in a

As the shadows engulfing her room gradually gave way to the gentle morning sunlight, Neo began to stir. She finally woke up after a long night of deep slumber, while the strange, almost disturbing dream still lingered in her mind. It robbed her of that well-rested feeling she craved so much after the previous day's adventure. Rubbing her tired eyes, she sat up in bed, trying to recall the blurred images that had revealed themselves to her subconscious. The mask, the tar. She could still see them clearly. The fragments of her visions continued to swirl in her memories, only posing countless unanswered questions. For now, her childlike creativity simply filled in every blank, leaving her with a slight uneasiness, yet also intrigue.
Hoping to return to her treasure later that day, Neo set about her morning routine. After getting dressed in her usual linen garb, accompanied by a short, cyan cape wrapped around her shoulders, she followed the sweet scent of breakfast downstairs and joined
Sharing the art that comes from my heart and soul. It means a lot to me and I hope you enjoy it too!
Sometimes also fun blocky builds.
Currently working on a big original story called "Masked in Flames". I will be sharing mostly background art, characters designs and other related stuff. New chapters will be added whenever they are ready
To anyone who is still out there and interested in the silly stuff I do here: I've revived my ancient Wattpad account to upload chapters of my story there too! At the moment, I can't figure out how to get the formatting on here right when I just copy/paste text from my word document. To read my story with decent formatting go to my Wattpad instead. Let me know if anyone knows how to copy the correct formatting on deviantart, I can't find helpful information anywhere!

About Masked in Flames:
Follow the life journey of Neo, a young woman who was destined to find an ancient mask with mysterious powers. Her story takes place in a medieval fantasy world called Magna, which features a rich history, countless nations, and a lurking greater evil. This story is my little hobbyist passion project! All art and characters are drawn by me as well.
Chapters will be added whenever they are ready. I hope to finish the story one day, but be aware,
