2 Months out and feelin' fine~

Thu Apr 2, 2015, 9:03 PM
As the title states, it's been about two months since transplant and I am still sort of in disbelief over it. Things are so different now!

I have energy, I'm excited and ready to get back to things I love, and I can give attention and effort more without constant anxiety or depression. I did not realize I was going down a pretty dark road for the past couple of years, I had literally no clue. Every day felt so dismal and the only thing I'd really pay attention to was my dog for his sake alone. I slept so much and would just kind of chill out and be too tired or bored to come online or talk to anyone. I looked sick, I felt sick, but I thought I was doing well - only to see such a big change after transplant. I feel happier and healthier then I did before I got sick in the first place! I am in a better place.

My plans are now to save everything I can until next year, and try to move back to Seattle. Have a good pal who wants to move there and we're gonna room it up out in Lynwood more then likely, dog, parakeet and all. (My dog, their parakeet haha)

I am still not able to have a legit paycheck which is a bit unsettling, but without Medicare my rejection meds cost an easy $6,000 a month - how does anyone afford to stay alive? Makes my brain hurt to try and figure it out. Speaking of medication! My body is doing so strongly and well, they have reduced the amount I take! It's a big indicator that my body is accepting the kidney with very minimal issues. I try to take very good care of myself so it will last as long as physically possible. The first 6 months are the most intensely watched, eventually I'll barely see a doctor beyond once a month and a yearly visit in Seattle to my transplant hospital.

Beyond arting a lot, I play games as much as ever (Currently on Bloodborne, Monster Hunter 4 annnnd a pile of Steam games haha) I read a little, and continue to still build and create my own little character-worlds with my best pal Katie-W (who I'll get to see 100x more once I move back down YAY~)

If there is any other questions, feel free to ask anytime.  Not too much more to add since things are going pretty good. I did take a tumble doing something stupid (redecorating, leaned on something with wheels and fell flat on my back) but I got checked out and there's no damage, just a bruised back and ego haha. Dogs doing really well, bullheaded as ever and cute as could be. He's a whopping 38 lbs of pure muscle, sheesh!

Oh! Also I was gifted a subscription and want to make a shout-out to iAmSprFstJellyfish , thank you for being so generous!

I hope to add a few things here more often, I generally just post to tumblr but I will try to post more here ahhhhh~.

On the flip side, how are YOU all doing? Tell me!

Have watched a few folks play it, it looks fun.

I know this post is a bit older now, but I just wanted to pop in and say that I am super happy to hear you are doing so well. It must have been a tough few years for you with everything that was going on, and I hope that things continue to get better for you from here on out. You really deserve it. I am so excited for you and looking forward to seeing more new art coming from you again. Your work was always a huge inspiration, but you already knew that. :3

Keep up the good fight!

I'm so glad to hear that!!  I'm glad you're feeling so much better!

Things have been absolutely crazy over here but hopefully will calm down soon??  I have a stable well paying job that gives me a lot of free time so I'm going to try to take this time to work on the writing stage of my webcomic so I can start posting it soon (Hopefully this year???)  I've been dealing with bad anxiety and depression problems, but I've been on a medication for it for a few months now and it really seems to work great for me!  I'm trying to start drawing again, the anxiety sort of made me stop for several months, and it's really hard to get back in the hang of doing often and not letting it scare me.  I'm trying to start today to do a "at least draw a little bit, doesn't have to be finished, every day" sort of thing for myself.  Hopefully that works out!

Truly happy that things are still continuing to go so well after the transplant! =) Hoping things are able to work themselves out regarding income and meds, as that cost is rather insane! Hope to hear updates about life back in Seattle! :3

As for the "how are YOU all doing", been working on some ideas for a world / setting / characters / story. I've always been *super* inspired and in awe of the stuff you and Katie-W did with your world building, but only recently started on my own projects. It's been good times though, and I'm not sure I'd have started without seeing the cool stuff you two have done. (Be it separately or together) So much thanks to both of you! =)

I'm so happy to hear you're doing well!  (Both on the kidney front and the moving to somewhere cool plans. :) )

Mostly doing well myself, wrasslin' a bit with some depression/anxiety issues but they're not severe for the most part.  Honestly I just feel dumb for not realizing/admitting it sooner since this has been a thing for pretty much high school and on. ;;  But getting out for hikes and doing small stuff like cleaning the linen closet helps, its just been a bit of a nuisance when it comes to art.  So smaller projects lately for me.

I am SO happy for you and thrilled that things are going so well with your transplant! It's wonderful to hear that you have more energy and feel better in general. Working with dialysis patients every day, I can see exactly what you were talking about with how you were before transplant. So again, I'm so excited for you! I hope everything continues to go well and that your move can happen. You deserve all the happiness! Take care! <3

Wow, that's freaking awesome, Neo. I am so happy that you finally have more than just a break, it seems you get your life back! And I bet you don't take anything for granted, these days. :)
You may not be able to make a ton of money, because of medicare and income restrictions, but perhaps you can take your time and devote it to some sort of passion project, maybe? Web comics are quite the thing, these days. :D

And how are we doing? I am sure that I can speak for most of us when I say that we have all missed you. Personally, I have been busy arting away, and I finally made it into my full time career in the last 2 years. Doing pretty well, too! I am working on an art book at the moment, and preparing for a comic, in my spare time between commission work. It's fun, and it keeps me busy.

Welp, really glad to hear things are looking up for you. You deserve a second chance!

Yeaaah, America's healthcare expenses are ridiculous. It's one reason why I'm having issues with getting the healthcare I need for my Celiac Disease. In addition to that, I wanted to get an idea of what my intestinal health is like, but that's pretty expensive.

My late Grandmother had bad kidney problems and they tormented her for years. I'm very glad to hear you're not going to have to deal with that crap anymore.

So glad to hear the kidney's taking as much a liking to you as you are to it! :P
As well as your tumble only bruising your ego and back, rather than causing any serious damage.
I should keep constant check on your Twitter/Tumblr, if for no other reason than to oogle at your pooch..ies? You have more than one?
I'm a big dog lover, having three of my own, plus a ragdoll cat... they're so cute when they all sleep in a huge pile of collective fluff. Animals, amirite? <3
Just really happy to hear your life has taken a turn for the better, and I hope you can move back to Seattle and hang with Katie again, you two seem to have a lot of fun together.
All the good things your way <3

As for how am I; I've gone through some major changes in my life these past few years, least of which was moving to the neighbouring country. I went through a lot of... well, shit, which made me grow a thicker skin and a... filter towards people. But on the same time, I think it made me kinder and more understanding. I try use my experiences to help people, and wear the scars like armour instead of weights that bring me down. I'm done being a victim. I still have some issues due to what I went through, but each day it gets easier.
Life's quite good right now, though it's a lot of waiting while papers roll - but I'm passing the time drawing, reading, playing games, training martial arts, playing with my fluffs... It's quite peaceful. =u=

If curious for specifics:
Drawing - ehh... bunch of things. I've no direction really, just fiddling with a bit of everything, made a goal to complete different sets of chibies... which will take me forever, if I do. u@"
Reading - my boyfriend bought me +20 books for my birthday in 2013 xD' Still going through those. In the middle of some Last Airbender comics and the World War Z book.
Games - Just finished the DLC for The Last of Us, forever stuck in Skyrim and attempting to finally finish Baldur's Gate II: Shadow's of Amn.. and stuck with Persona 3 (keep forgetting to play it)
Martial arts - I picked up muay thai in January, as they don't have baji quan over here. Though I am flying to Finland and in May to London for some special extensive weekend course on baji, because it's "my" style and I love it. <3

So happy your body is accepting the kidney! Dialysis is so scary :( It's amazing you feel better than you did before you were sick. I don't get how anyone makes it these days as far as money either :( I'm living on $1,200 a month and have like $5k+ of debt and live in my in-laws' dark windowless basement and never have anything leftover at the end of the month, it's impossible to get my debt down or save to get out of here. I'm hoping my husband can get a job very soon cause he's been unemployed since October, and he can't collect unemployment because we live in his parents' home, it really sucks. I hope things start looking up for you and me both with money so we can be happier with where and how we live!

Very pleased that you are doing so much better.  I'm all too familiar with long-term depression; it really drags down your whole life.  In your case, there was an obvious critical health issue and I'm sure it feels wonderful to get out from under that.

I lived in Lynnwood for almost three years back in the mid-nineties; probably changed a lot since then.  I was in an apartment just off 99.  Too much traffic!

Nearby Edmonds down on Puget Sound is a very scenic place to live and I believe there's an active artist community there.  Also an Amtrak/Sounder train station and the ferry to Kitsap Peninsula.

I'm glad to hear you're doing better! Your experience sounds a lot like mine except instead of having a surgery, I started on a medication for depression. I had no idea I was doing so badly until I got well again. I had forgotten how it felt to be excited by my ideas, forgotten how to enjoy a sunny day... It had been so long since I had the energy and desire to play, really run around and play. I didn't even realize I was in hell. Now, physically and emotionally, I too am in a better place.

I'm sorry about your financial woes... But hopefully now your renewed energy and restored emotions will make life feel like it's worth living again!

I'm honestly so excited to hear that you're doing so much better now! Your work output on other sites has also got me excited since it's wonderful to finally see your art again; the lack of activity in art was sad for awhile (though completely understandable) but I don't know, I'm just super happy/excited for you and hope the best for you in the future.
Will Shay and his bffle (best friend for, like, ever) be blessing our retinas again anytime soon? ; v ;

I'm wanting to move myself, but after graduating, it's been super hard finding a job I've wanted to do full-time. I applied for a job at a certain anime company in the area and was told I was on the waiting list for a call/interview by a friend who works there already, but it's been like 3 months, and I'm just thinking of moving on even though the job opening is still posted. I want to move in with my bf in like 3 years or so, but so many bills and debts already, gotta save save save heh c:

Glad to hear it!  I empathize with your perspective.  Sometimes you don't realize what a ditch you were in until you climb out of it.

I'm currently working on a webcomic, the first chapter/part which I hope to post... soonish.  Working as a colorist, trying to get to a point where I can make enough money to pay back student loans 'n stuff.  Started a Patreon.  Trying to not freak out about the webcomic and patreon.  The usual :P
