Today, my grandmother would have been 80 years old.
I had the privilege of being very close with my grandmother and I will forever remember her as an extremely strong, independent and vibrant woman.
However, I also remember the cancer and her long and arduous battle.
When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, it would be the second time in my life I'd feel helpless against cancer's toll on someone important to me. When I was eight, my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer and while she survived it, the long term effects would change her life forever.
