d: de Troyes and His Lady :b by nenuiel d: de Troyes and His Lady :b by nenuiel
This is the last colored sample I have for my stain glass style. =D

This pieces focuses on Chretien de Troyes and his Countess. For those of you who don't know, de Troyes is the french Arthurian Romance writer from the middle ages that is responsible for the creation of Lancelot.

Studying his life (or what we know of it) I believe he based the affair of Lancelot and Guinivere on the pining he felt for the (married) Countess he served. ^^ Thus the strange rational of the illicit affair is explained! Yay!

From what I read Marie de Champagne requested the subject of "Knight of the Cart," so the origin of Lancelot was a woman's idea... Chretien's prologue is a little ambiguous at to whether he approved of the adulterous affair or not. But I like to go along with your belief that he was sympathetic to it because of his beloved patroness.

It definitely tickled me when I found out Lancelot was basically a commission piece. Romance has not changed much in the past 800 years. XD

This is really fabulous, and definitely looks very stained-glass'y. (: Beautiful work, and that's an interesting explanation!
