Aaaahhhhh, it's so nice to do something that is not related to a school project.

And so the Dragon Queen Tiamat is reborn!! I've gone back and revised this character that I conceptualized years ago. I would give the links I have for images of her that I have done previously, but I'm saving that for my 'Kick your own @ss' submission. =D

The link to my submission is here to see the comparison: [link]

But I have this huge obsession with Byzantine/Moroccan/Indian/Arabic architecture and details right now. It's always amazing to me how all those societies could combine an dizzying array of colors and still make it look cohesive. I made an attempt but I don't think it was as successful. I'll keep trying though! :w00t:

Mediums: Marker, Color Pencil, White Ink

I shouldn't have to say - please please PLEASE do not use, borrow, distribute or reproduce without my distinct permission! Thank you so much!

It's so detailed that I don't know what to look at :) I like the softness from used mediums and love way you've improved over few years, it is really incredible!

Detail porn much?

That said, this is magnificent: capturing the intricacy of Byzantine artwork perfectly!

XDDD That is the first time it's been called 'detail porn'. That's hilarious!

And thank you for the comments, I greatly appreciate it! ^_^

HO-LY CRAP. The amount of detail is making my head spin! Wish I had that kind of patience!

*laughs* But the consequence is that I was too focused on detail, not so much on dimension! XD

Hmm I think if you just knocked back the white of the staircase and the white shine of the blue curtain so that it's not competing with the white dress of your figure that might solve that. Well, maybe if you only knock back the staircase on the sides so it frames your figure a bit?

That may work. I'll play around in photoshop (I don't know where the original is...)

Oh my god I was just randomly visiting your page and I saw this and went, "WHUT." You have this wonderful/sexy/excruciating detail. It must have taken FOREVERRRR.

I observe though, the bluish drapery behind the throne(?) seems to lack some life. You've established the values perfectly so you have a great base. Maybe you can work some more colors into it to really add some life and weight (basically, work the same magic you did on her dress onto the drapes). It'll tone down the extreme highlights and it won't snatch the viewers eyes from the princess.

Thank you so very much! =D And I really appreciate the critique as well - it will be something I will keep in mind as I work on my next piece. ^.~

Nice work! Great use of color, light and detail- I like the little things too, like the way you used the surface of the medium as the texture for the steps.
I agree with the earlier post re/ the composition, but really it isn't too bad.

Thank you so very much!! =D I'm glad that I was able to use my medium well enough to imply texture - that's a nice thing to hear! And yeah, next time I'll be sure that the viewer stays in the image a little longer! ^^;

Her jewellry is great, as well as the throne! I really love her outfit!!!
She just looks like a queen or goddess!
your colouring is great too, but one thing: her head is (far) to big. especially from this perspective :)

Thank you so very much!! =D I really wanted to give that sense of grandeur acquainted with a Queen/Goddess and I'm glad that I succeeded.

And I know!! >.< Actually, her head was in pretty good proportion before I added the headdress. It makes her look really top heavy - I will really keep an eye out for that next time! =D

The detail...the shiny...the transparency...god I would hate to have to animate that! XD

I kid, I kid, I've gotta give you props on all the little things you worked into this. Something about the doorways looks oddly west Asian, was that what you were going for? I think it's the blue on gold, reminds me of something I saw in Survey I and never bothered to remember.

YES!! It's is western Asian inspired!! =D India, Morocco Tunisia...all those places. Yay it's recognizable!!

And Zelda I dare you to animate this for a project!! XDD Just kidding...kinda... ^.~

I'll do it if you give me a veritable army of pro-quality animators to clean it up. Like...all of Disney's 2D department from the early 90s, before they started sucking.

XDDD I know one friend of mine who might meet those qualifications! And boy do I miss the old Disney animators - why, why did they close down the French studio!! *cries*

Because they're all money-hungry fiends, that's why! Seriously, if they're putting out crap like Beverly Hills Chihuahua and that thing with the guinea pigs, you know the company's got issues.

I mean, come on. Their live action stuff is getting more publicity than their animated stuff these days. It's sad. By the way, did you see the Saturday Night Live sketch about the Disney Vault?

I know! But pretty much everyone in Hollywood is doing it for money nowadays...not utilizing any of the mediums - animated or live - like they should. I only hope the Frog Princess turns that trend around.

I mean really - spy gerbils? WHAT THE HECK?? o.O

And I don't watch much SNL, so no, I haven't! ^^;

^^ It's HILARIOUS. Effing hilarious.

I haven't got high hopes for the Frog Princess because I know if I did, I would definitely be setting myself up for disappointment. Not sure if you're into Harry Potter, but if they ever remade the movies, I definitely want to see it in an animated format. That whole series is just screaming "ANIMATE ME!"

Wicked, too. An animated Wicked movie would rock.

....that is so sad....so very very sad because it will probably happen...

I try not to get to excited, but I can't help it! I really, really really want it to do well.

And yeah, I think an animated Harry Potter movie would be much better. :giggle:

One thing though, for me I think the composition would work better if she was facing the other way. She's too close to the edge of image that it leads the eye out of the picture rather than in.

Crazy detail is what I go for. =D And I was hoping that the eye would start at the throne, follow the veil to the figure - which is why she's faced that way. But I think you're right that she leads the eye out of the image too soon. I'll keep an eye out for that next time. Thanks for the advice!
