d: Asperger Awareness :b by nenuiel d: Asperger Awareness :b by nenuiel
I was asked to design three social awareness posters for a Graphic Design class I took last quarter. I chose to discuss Asperger's syndrome, since I know several people with that prognosis.

The main issue someone with Asperger's is communication. A lot of times it's hard for someone who has Asperger's to understand social interaction and the signals we use unconsciously in conversations. They are usually incredibly intelligent, but this barrier of communication tends to make them feel isolated as well as help people understand them.

So yeah, I played with theme of a box, because as a child someone explained to me that when someone is born with Asperger's, they are born in a box. It takes time and effort to break out of the box to see the outside world.

So yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Graphic Design is HARD. You take a idea, abstract it, then make it literal for the common audience. I applaud all Graphic Designers.

Please do not use, borrow, distribute or reproduce without my distinct permission. Thank you!

well, I don't know about box, but I see it as a big house, with a LOT of stuff stored inside the house, and they are great things
but the only thing is, there's no door, but only one, small, window
people outside trying to look, but the window is too small, they can barely see anything wonderful inside
the person inside have all the great stuff to share, but they couldn't open the window, it is not meant to be open in simple way
try to break the house? no way, where will the person live then?
how about a door? will, one could try, but with all that stuff in the way, good luck

I don't know, I use to think about it that way, right now? I'm not sure, but it sure is good to rethink this~

That is also a lovely analogy! The box is the one my parents used to explain to my sibling and I about my older brother (who has aspergers). If I do another poster, I'll consider using it, if you don't mind. Thank you so much for sharing! =D

heh, I'm glad to give out my idea
is quite interesting, there's people who's living with Asperger, there's people who's living with Asperger people, yet there's just thing that seem to be connecting all of us

Great way to explain it. Great message, too. I like how instead of just being "aware" or being "understanding" it encourages people to help open the box.

Wonderful design. I know someone with Asberger's Syndrome, and he's one of the smartest, most talented people I know. He just has a really hard time connecting with others.

Great art. Great message. Keep up the good work!

Thank you very much. I'm glad that you think like my design for this message. And I know someone with Aspergers too, which is why I designed this poster. People with Aspergers are so misunderstood, it's really sad.

Thanks again!
