Pirates of Dark Water Lineup by nenuiel Pirates of Dark Water Lineup by nenuiel
So yeah. Between packing and everything else, I found a little time to do some for fun fanart. =D These have been long overdue, since considering I start sketches what...last October? It's been a while.

GOSH I LOVE THIS SHOW!! Can't you tell? But it needs a bit of a refresher. So for fun, I've been rewriting the story, and messing around with some designs that you now see here. I wanted to include signature elements from the original designs, but put my own twist on them.

My goals with the designs:

Ioz: I wanted to make him even more 'roguish' and push his proportions further. Give him a huge stage presence to match his personality. To reflect the sea world that they live in, he now has coral armor. Which is an actual deal with some oceanic cultures. Coolest thing ever and actually quite effective. And since Ioz's a gambler, I assume most of his clothing was acquired through a game of lots, and he just patches them together.

Ren: He's supposed to be late teens/early twenties. Granted, old design was hot as heckfire but lets face it - he looked WAY too old for his projected age. My main goal was to make him look his age, but still strong, but in a young/wiry kind of way. And since my version of the story has steampunk elements (will be shown later) he has a bit more of a mechanic streak and now wears gloves. Hey. He worked in a lighthouse his entire life. I'm assuming he protected his hands somehow.

Tula: Still messing around with her a bit. This time she's already an ecomancer from the beginning, so I referenced a bit more of her second design. The idea of the lack of armor, despite her being a warrior (although she has it, second design) is her mentality 'a true warrior doesn't need armor'. But that doesn't always work out as shown by that scar on her revealed tummy.

Niddler: Again, love/hate relationship with this character. He never looked like a 'monkeybird' as much as a 'chimpanzeebird' to me. So, made him smaller. Easier to transport and to feed - especially considering his voracious appetite for minga melons.

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR CRITIQUE AND FEEDBACK. Don't be shy. Trust me, you will not hurt my feelings. If I continue playing around with this, I want feedback!

I assume PODW is still owned by Warner Bros. Drawings are mine. That is all.

I LOVE that you're playing with these characters, they didn't get nearly as long a run as they should have! Overall, I like the direction you're going in with Ren and Tula, and I agree with the above comment that Ioz is a bit too big. He's strong and muscular, but I'm assuming that he didn't always have enough to eat. As for Niddler, making him smaller makes sense, so long as he never has to carry anyone. I can't remember if he ever had to or not in the show, but he was large enough that he could have conceivably at least slowed a descent. I'm feeling like I want to see him with the wings as separate limbs again as well so that he still has the freedom of carrying things and perching while flying.

This is highly impresive, although I don't think that this new image fits with Ioz - he might be strong, but i think you overdid it with his bulkiness...

I think you're right. This is about the 10th version I've done on him. XD I'll pull back and tone him down a bit again and can't see if I can't get it to work! Thanks for the input!

Nice designs. Great job!

Thanks! Although I still think I can improve on them a tad bit. But it's a good start! =D

I remember this!

Only real thing I can say is the big guy looks a little off. Face and upperbody I would say.

Yeah, I've been struggling with Ioz. I may pull back on his upper body and see if that doesn't help him. By the way. Your icon is hilarious. Thanks for the advice!
