Had forgotten to upload this one in here. Back in 2016 I had an issue with a publisher that took one of my illustrations from here in DA and used it as a backcover for a run of 3000 books, they didn't pay for the usage rights of course, so we went to court. Finally it got solved and I got compensated! This was my thanks to everyone who supported me back in the day.  A big portion of the support came from the Thai community, which inspired me to do this painting :D I think it quite falls short on showcasing the dimension of my gratitude, but if you still are curious about the process, here is where: www.artstation.com/artwork/zyQ…

Ugh, does that ever blow. You need to post your artwork online to get clients in this day and age, but still some talentless piece of **** comes along with Photoshop and just enough skills to remove a watermark, and then makes the profit off of all your hard work! And you do incredible work!

You have made the representation of Thailand to be a powerful yet protective presence towards a adoring Mexico. It's cute, and it's a clear message.

Gorgeous artwork with a wonderful message, love the fact that it blends two different cultures and symbolises unity among people, regardless of nationality, race & Co. The garuda looks so powerful and menacing, yet at the same time majestic, calm and protective of the Mexican girl dressed in folk clothes. And last but not least I'm impressed not only by the Thai people's support, but also by your grateful reaction to this. Really warms my heart to know there still are so many awesome people out there, faith in humanity restored.

Thank you! Is the least I could have done, they restored my faith in humanity with their amazing support <3

Yeah, know what you mean about having your faith restored in humanity, especially since I feel we're similar in some of our opinions after following you, your works and your opinions for years now (especially the recently debate of an artist's work being criticised by a well-known author and the resulting artists' rebellion against that writer) It does feel amazing to know there are people out there who fight the good fight, while still keeping a level head and not transforming everything into crusades.

Thanks! Yeah, that one of the writer was quite stressing because the illustrator community relies heavily in how other illustrators perceive them, so  they will pick the side of whomever they think will benefit their careers even if blatantly in the wrong (at the worst), or just say nothing and distance themselves of the persona non grata until everything cools down (at best). It was quite a hit to have the realization if I wanted to remain in the community I'd have to deal with this type of personality, so I had to make a choice. Now I keep doing art, but my social interaction has been outsourced to groups of people who are still different but are more into critical thinking and less into tribalism. So far is working wonderfully!

Yeah, you hit the nail on how this whole situation works, I know myself how it is to simply distance myself from a scandal, either because I really don't have the time/mood to deal with closed minds or because I have to be careful to not burn bridges. That's why irl I'm pretty much a hermit socially speaking, generalizing people in my country are not big on critical thinking and open-mindedness so I spend time doing solo outings and activities. But still hoping to find some peeps down my alley, that's why I think it's great you found such people, I think it's an awesome moral support.

Speaking of groups I wanted to ask you if you happen to know online groups - on Facebook, DeviantArt, ArtStation etc - in this illustration/concept design industry that cater to people of any skill level with honest critique, advice & Co, but with a minimum of subjectivity and drama? I'd like to join one or more to help me concentrate better on improving my art, but at the same time don't want the drama I got a decade ago on anime forums and the likes. I was looking into LevelUP! on Facebook, but seeing as people there are kinda the same group as in our discussion... I'm not so sure.

I don't know of any unfortunately, I keep coming to the same old LevelUp and another one in Spanish for the occasional poll, but that's about it. I've seen the Loish group from afar and it seems less dramey but wouldn't know for sure if that's actually the case or if I just don't happen to bump into it much, gives me the impression people in there is quite oversensitive too but precisely because of that the moderation and post policies are tailored to avoid drama dynamics. If I bump into any I'll keep you posted! :)

That's really great info to know, thank you so much for sharing it with me. I'll definitely start posting on LevelUp! then and start looking into the Loish group, in the end if I don't like drama I can just choose to ignore it no matter where it is, or who I respond to. Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me this stuff and for sharing your experience with these things, really appreciate it lots. And congrats for being such a level headed, yet argumentative, person, I seriously admire your tenacity to confidently and logically support your opinions while also knowing how to not offend and accept different opinions. This, for me, is really great to see.
