Chapter 3: Midnight Adventures
Outside, along the castle’s side, the shadows shifted as Varian appeared headfirst. He looked around to make sure he was alone, then pulled the rest of himself out into the open and dusted off his jacket. “Well, that went over like a house on fire…” he muttered, pocketing his gloves.
He looked at the sky to gauge the sun’s position. One of his abilities let him see where moonlight touched. He would receive visions in his mind’s eye, revealing the location of whoever or whatever he was searching for. However, the sun held sway over the skies, so he couldn’t use that ability.
Sighing, Varian resigned himself to searching the old-fashioned way for the princess. As he considered where in the castle to start, a sensation rippled through him, as if something were tugging at him. Startled, he blinked, then focused on the sensation and followed it across the castle grounds.
