Today's World Watercolor Month piece. This is actually a pencil sketch I did months ago that I then just did not like and actually hated. It was just the crow with some jewelry, and I couldn't get the crow to come out looking...well, crowlike. I took it out for today, inked it, and painted it. Figured it could be an experiment and I had nothing to lose if I already hated the drawing. Background is loosely based on the Superstition Mountains outside my hometown.
Pretty successful experiment in saving something from ruin. Honest inspiration source? Typical me...a Nightwish song (The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove
) and I wanted the setup to look like a Yu-Gi-Oh! card."A crow flew to me, kept its distance.
Such a proud creation.
I saw its soul, envied its pride,
but needed nothing it had."
From "The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove" by Nightwish.
Watercolour with watercolour pencils for detail and deeper shadows on paper.
