A Taste of the Modern West by NekoMarik A Taste of the Modern West by NekoMarik
Despite me using a photo of a manmade canal in Switzerland as a reference, this somehow turned into a canal in Yuma.  Well, I did get the water and ice floes from the reference photo.  But as I was painting the stream and the concrete siding, I realized what I was getting was reminding me of the canals and reservoirs in Yuma and Tucson, so I looked up references from my home state and turned it into that.  A fun experiment, and also the one that told me I need to get better watercolours than a cheap $5 36 colour set from Michael's.

Watercolour (cheapies, too opaque to be watercolour but too transparent to be gouache), some brown ink over the cacti, brush, and mountains to get them to stand out more.  And a whole lot of missing home.
