Celebrating 10 years with my partner this season has been quite an event. Something I thought that would pass quietly, unnoticed by all but she and I, has been met with some amazing news. Namely, New York became the sixth state to legalize same-sex marriage since 2004.
It's odd to reflect back on something like marriage, and know I need to live in a certain place in order to be married. I took it for granted as a kid. Everyone get's married, right? Or they at least have the OPTION to, anyway.
But that's just not the way it is. For whatever reason, choosing to be a little different, think a little more outside of the box, or stand a little taller marks me a person who, by law, is not eligible for marriage in this country. Unless I live in one of six designated areas. Isn't that a little...queer...?Well, since I heard that news, my out-box thinking brain coupled it with the buzz about DC Comics' "more modern and diverse 21st century" vision of their characters. I immediately said, "Oh! We can get married in Gotham!".
Hence, this little comic to commemorate the moments that have passed recently:
- okay to be gay in NY
- celebrating 10 years of wonder with my wife to be
- wondering if DC will take The Great Gay/Trans/Bi Leap with any of their established characters
I hope you enjoy the comic. It was nice to do a little project for myself.
