Ah! Love your tutorials and artwork in general. ;u ;

I've been practicing anatomy by using pose references like that ^

As a junior artist I have a question. Does it make an artist less, if he uses references like that? ;A ;

For me, drawing what I see in my head is extremely hard unless I use a reference. (Of course not tracing and all that stuff. )

Glad I can help you ^w^

Unfortunately many people thinks using references is the same as tracing and that it will make your art less valuable but that is totally wrong.
I've met really great artists that make such beautiful pieces and they do reference from real life by using a model. You won't be cheating by looking at references, you'll only be making sure you drew things correctly.
Think about great pieces like La Gioconda for example. Da Vinci painted that while having a model and I don't see anyone calling him a tracer.

You don't understand how much that made my day. I've always been one to think about looking at references but I get stuck on the fact that people often see that as some way of cheating. Artists are always advising that you use references at first--- even if you are an advanced artist-- that it's not only helping with anatomy but it's also fun to simply redraw a pose.

The thing with this is the fact that people don't understand that it's not tracing, especially if you're redrawing it in another canvas and not.. TRACING. It's been bothering me for a while but now I know that I can do it freely without feeling as if someone will judge me as an artist for it. Especially considering that Da Vinci example.

It makes me happy I could help you too with just some words ^w^
Yeah the problem with art is that... since there are no specific rules for work I guess every artist tends to create their own rules and the problem starts where someone creates a new rules as stupid as "referencing is tracing". That's not written anywhere! and I really don't understand how this could becime such a big "rule" for most of the people I know.

I understand how you feel. Once again, I feel as if I get into something like this which is for my own benefit as an artist, I'll be looked down on as an artist for using resources.
One thing that slightly bothers me is where I can really find some good references to use without having to commit to all of these rules and standards.. You know, just a free source to use for inspiration and reference.

There are lots of accounts here on dA that offer free references.
You can browse through the Stock Images tag whenever you need inspiration:
www.deviantart.com/browse/all/…
As well as posing yourself in front of a mirror or taking a picture of yourself, that is totally free xD

The thing with me and taking pictures is the fact that I have a huge dislike towards.. well, me and getting in front of a camera. I'm very camera shy, not that my camera is any good anyway.

Ah, you a very right! And I love the Da Vinci example, too. *-*
Thank you so much! I really needed to hear this to boost my self confidence. ♥

Uy, aún me queda mucho para poder hacer uno así xD
De momento estoy intentando entender las caras que ya me cuesta lo mío. A medida que me sienta más confiada en ese tema iré compartiendo lo que descubra.
