i'm not a fan of pointless nudity or constant in your face sex appeal

oh dont get me wrong , i don't cringe away from it or fear it in any form. i just prefer it followed by a definitive context

in this case matt had a written that aphrodite was to be scanned in detail and analyzed. nudity seemed logical to me even if it was not specifically asked. or really yknow..shown XD

but i had a deeper reason... my art history driven symbolism itch was strong in this one. i really wanted to do  a shot that mimics Renaissance works of aphrodite/venus  standing on a seashell...

so for one rare moment i actually had enough of a reason to go for nudity here

now waiting for a sex scene to pop our..muahahah XD cause in the meanwhile will be dressed in battlegear kicking asses of robots cyborgs  mutants and all sorts of beasts

This does remind me of scenes from Druuna comics....

I really like this one man! I only own 2  aphrodite 9 books but definitly want to start up a collection of them!

Aphrodite is remarkably bashful, all things considered.  Well, IX is, I think the XV series has little if any restraint in anything she does.

Also I like how you said you're not a fan of pointless nudity but most of your drawings do in fact, have pointless nudity. But I guess that's fine, since most of deviantART are inclined to favorite anything with a bit of cleavage.
nebezial Featured By Owner Feb 24, 2014
which of my drawings have pointless nudity?

MadQueenJo Featured By Owner Feb 14, 2014
You're my new favorite artist, just for the fact that you don't do pointless nudity. Plus, the expressions on your character are damn amazing.
Loewenherz Featured By Owner Jan 25, 2014
Pity... you should have included some robot arm/camera heads or such in the position where Botticelli posted the putti (naked angel dudes) and of course her hair is pretty short for the classical shell pose (usually goes down to the pubes to hide anything too indecent on that type of pic).

But the idea and hommage are cute and well executed. And with the slightly creepy ghostly green scan results on the other half it's also not too obviously gratuitous... :D

yknow i was actually considering doing something of the sorts but gave up on it in the sketching stage

Completely neat, and you know, buttons and zippers  and such might have interfered with a proper reading. ;)

I like your art.

This is an example of where the actress says "Well, it is germane to the plot" and agrees to drop her kit for the good of the script.
Quite nicely done! I appreciate Aphrodite's trepidation at disrobing and the detachment of the technician.

Is it weird that I saw the coloration between whatever this is and "The Birth of Venus" before I read your description? No? Ok, just checking.

Classical art reference for the win!! :)

I've sort of have gotten to the same point, but I'm a lot less partial.  I can understand nudity in say a strip club, a roman bath, a brothel of some sort, or an obvious sex scene assuming you must have either of those in whatever story you're doing.  It pretty much comes with the territory, but I can't stand it under any other context since it along mostly with overt sex appeal have been done to death so far as I've seen in general (be it movies, games, comics, or whatever).  Older viewers (hek older isn't even really so much the case for me anyway) have seen it all before and then some even when they probably don't expect it (which is what really gets me).  That doesn't mean don't make women sexy or beautiful (either I think are alright as long as it isn't every other female character) or beyond.  It just means don't abuse it especially when you don't have to.

the scanned view I quite amazing ^^

Oh god, I dont read Aphrodite but when you mentioned her pose and the seashell reference I was like 'OMG it's Botticelli's Birth of Venus'. The lesson here- analyze art much more closely. I feel like I should have known that immediately before reading. Clever sir, very clever.

Nice drawing.  I hate how people manipulate nudity.
juha91 Featured By Owner Nov 12, 2013
I just love those "on-air" touch buttons and screens you see in sci-fi nowadays... wish they were real. :)

A cool piece of art, love the cool fullbody x-ray scan, the machinery and the character's expressions. Even if there's no dialogue, the images speak a lot. Also, good use of symbolism here, those who know the painting will realize quickly (she seems to be in a similar pose to the painting, too). It's a good idea to put a symbol like that in such a sci-fistic work, really gives it depth.

The back of my brain noted the resemblence but my forebrain didn't catch on til I read the description, lol. Awesome!

Ha! great work as always but it seems odd to see you say you are not a fan of "in your face sex appeal" considering your shiniez account.
I always thought that guy just ripped off your style and wasn't quite as good, but recently saw the mermaids picture from that account (it was on front page- popular in last 8 hours) and noticed the artist name and country was the same.
You are one of my favorite artists ever, but that other account is a bit weird for me, hah! :)

Love this illustration! The composition, the expressions, the colors, just wonderful! I always enjoy viewing your work!
strange-bunny Featured By Owner Nov 10, 2013  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
i love it but i think if you wanted to convey the Aphrodite image you should of had to sets of robots disrobing her like the nypmhs bringing her clothes in the original

1) LOVE Your work
2) I like how You refer to Botticelli´s Aphrodite painting with shell, You did great, man!
Inkthinker Featured By Owner Nov 9, 2013  Professional Digital Artist
I think between the seashell composition (which I think is subtle but effective, especially given the name of the comic) and the face that any lingering sexual impression is offset by the skeletal/muscular display of the next page (nice cyborg arm) means you get a pass on the naughty card, this time. :D

I really like your rough, raw line work. Have you done any comics in this style? I think I actually prefer it over the fully rendered/painted stuff you do.
peirrin Featured By Owner Nov 8, 2013
Same thing in movies.  Man, I hate seeing the obligatory 'romance and/or sex scene."   Most of it does nothing to help the movie story line, it's just got to be in there for some messed up marketing appeal!  GAR.

ANYWAY.  I too agree with an above commenter.  Xray effect well done!
Urofect Featured By Owner Nov 8, 2013
Yeah I've notice that with your work, as I'm an advent follower of yours, that nudity is rare and only ever present if the context is appropriate. In The Darkness the nudity wasn't over the top either, considering the themes and style of it one would assume there would be more haha

Then I bet your going to love "Sex Criminals". No really! Go look for it! It's from image comics.

Like this!  -I know what you mean about the nudity in context..   Like one thing that always bugs me is the 'nude in nature' shots..  like why in the world would a girl be reclining naked on a fallen tree trunk? That can't be comfortable!
