second in the series of ravine character sheets

dragoon captain arianna balthasar

Aarianna joined paladias ranks at the age of 17. Early on she was noticed for her excallent tactical prowess, and skills at command. Combined with an innate understanding of magic her unique skillset made her a valuable asset to Paladias ranks.

She too like Antheus climbed the ladder of ranks quiclky, but unfortunately her carieer as an active fighter mage was ended in a tragic accident during dragoon training.
A rookie dragoon who was mishandling his dragon was about to learn the price of disrespecting the proud beast, but was at the last moment saved by his superior officer, Arianna.

She paid for his stupidity by losing her leg after being caught in a blast of dragonfire
and so , incapacitated for open battle at the age of 29 she still teaches young dragoons.

Arianna made her peace with the fact that a one legged warrior is of no great service to the kingdom, but it is an opinion she will soon change as the drums of war sound, and adventure calls

This is amazing, would you you able to tell me what style of armor she's wearing, I would love to use it for a character I'm writing.

Amazing drawings. I like your armors a lot. This one would be more realistic with some straps and belts.

Good Lord!  Female armor on a character that actually could PROTECT her?!?

That's unheard of!
Nillerus Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2014
Technically brilliant, I love your style, and maybe moreso the sentiment behind it. Practical female armour, with no exposed flesh, that is still highly feminine. I salute you!

Wow, the lighting in this one is just perfect

Truly wonderful to behold. I was playing through some fantasy games (BG 1&2, Skyrim) and some such. They all have female armours defying logic... :( But this!
This is fantastic.
Question though.
She probably isn't that balanced with a sword, but is she holding it in its scabbard or is it attached to the armour somehow?  I'm just asking because I don't see any belt or something to hold it up.
But again, amazingly portrayed armour.

If you look closely on the side with the sword, you can see various straps just below her chest, you can see one that is lower than the others. I think that is the belt holding up the sword. :)

Would you object to someone using this design as an inspiration for an actual set of leather (possibly with metals mixed in) armor?

One of the main reasons I bought Ravine ;)

Amazing! A female character in a fantasy comic who is realistically dressed, yet you still manage to show her beauty! Thank you!

This is a fav of mine not only for the amazing artwork, but the depth of the background story for this character. She is awesome! There should be more characters like her out there lol

Oh, Bless you! There's no armored bra on her breastplate! Thank you for drawing armor that (more realistic) way :)

Can I just say this: Way to go for making the girl have full-body armor! :D
I know that may seem strange, but it has ALWAYS bugged me how people draw warrior-women with next to nothing on, as if they really would go to war like that. (Well... I guess it is fantasy... but still! Guy warriors aren't shown running off to battle in their spedos, right?)

Anyway, LOVE the way you drew the armor, and looking through your gallery your comic story looks AWESOME!

The lighting on the armor looks phenomenal and the textures of the clothing are fabulous. I have to ask though, is the comic based off the PlayStation game Dragoon? Or are you heading in a different direction? Any which way, you're art work will look great and I bet the story will astound us all. :)

I'm in love with the story too, can't wait to read the whole thing!
MiekeV Featured By Owner Aug 18, 2009
It looks really awesome, I love the details in the face and so (even if there is sommit amiss with the eyes it seems).

Its only a pity that it goes from very detailed to barely detailed in such a piece, you can see how much effort you put in the upper parts, until you come at the waist and legs...its a bit of a pity, really.

Unless you're going to finish it still?
nebezial Featured By Owner Aug 18, 2009
once again,,, these things are made for printing in comics... this means that the fullsize people click to see is not the size of the print... printed it gets about one and a half times preview size, and thats all the detailing it can handle
MiekeV Featured By Owner Aug 23, 2009
Suppose thats a matter of opinion.
I have drawn for printing before, although I don't go as detailed as you at some places, but I do everything as detailed and not just particular area's, also with the thought of you might never know when you might use it bigger.

For my CD cover, knowing it would function for that, I made a massive sized picture and with strokes on the feathers of the wings and everything, not much got left of it on the actual print, but knowing it can be full viewed, or printed in bigger size, just gives me a better feeling.

You do make it big size anyway, to have it then toned down smaller for the printing.

Anyway, do still love your work, and always will, cheers. :)

yeah, but i bet that you take a thousand hours more than him to finish one work, exactly because of that :XD:
